Baker said the soviets have also indicated a willingness to consider direct flights to Israel for emigres provided they receive guarantees that none will be resettled in the occupied territories. The Secretary of state made his comments at the state department shortly before meeting with soviet foreign minister Eduard Shevardnadze. The two men later went to the White House for a meeting with president Bush. Bush and Shevardnadze met for two hours to prepare for a superpower Summit which the soviet envoy said a will become a major event in world  Shevardnadze predicted a wide Range of agreements would come out of the Summit Between Bush and soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev. The Summit is scheduled for May 30 in the United states. Bush said he was looking Forward to his meeting with Gorbachev. He cautioned the Kremlin against using Force in the breakaway Republic of Lithuania lest it a adversely affect broader superpower relations. In remarks to the american society of newspaper editors Bush said his message to the soviets was a do not use Force because we have an awful lot at stake in the .-soviet  he mentioned arms control treaties under negotiation human rights and regional issues which include Nicaragua and Afghanistan. The soviets have said they do not intend to use Force to resolve the lithuanian crisis. In his Public comments Bush did not offer any details of his two hours of talks with Shevardnadze. But Shevardnadze and the White House acknowledged it May not be possible to resolve All major provisions of a new treaty to reduce Long Range nuclear weapons before Gorbachev a arrival on May 30.
