European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - May 24, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes a Page 11 a writer cafes discuss value of recycling today i lunched with cafes at Kreuzberg Cavern in we Brucken. The Burger was Good and wrapped in a laminate of foil and paper. The advertising on the Burger Side of the wrapper admonishes Burger eaters to fight litter by recycling and states a hours is a special world a Courtesy of the hospitality Industry of which i presume cafes considers itself a part. These Are admirable sentiments and undoubtedly influence Many cafes patrons to help reduce litter and conserve resources including Energy by recycling something they otherwise would not had they not seen the inside of the Burger wrapper. I submit the wrapper admonitions would be much More effective in decreasing litter and fostering recycling if cafes customers could see cafes employees backed by cafes management making even Token efforts to reduce the tremendous amount of refuse created in their eateries. This could include recycling or doing such simple things As asking their patrons and workers to Deposit drink cans and bottles in separate containers so they could be recycled. Who pays the cafes garbage Bill our Uncle docs. This is a Way the government using appropriated funds has chosen to help cafes keep the soldiers Burger Cost Low. Not having to pay for garbage disposal does not relieve cafes management of the responsibility to do responsible things to keep total operating costs not just the Price of a Burger at a reasonable minimum. Actually we All would be better off if everyone in our military communities Felt this responsibility and a pitched a pitching in is a must in Many German communities. If . Forces comply with German Law in respect to refuse creation and disposal we All will have to alter our traditional behaviour and Recycle in the not too Distant future. In fairness to cafes i have seen no other mar food service operation in Germany which appears to be making an Effort to Recycle their refuse. They should since it can be done without increasing operating costs. And it will help reduce refuse disposal costs. A Bill Burch we Brucken West Germany editors note a master sgt. Dayton p. From buying environmentally responsible products to establishing recycling programs cafes will set the Pace for the next decade. We share your concerns and Welcome your Good ideas. A priorities for orthodontic care discussed dear Ann Landers this letter is to All the victims of molestation not just children but adults As Well. I am not a victim of this hideous crime. Much to my sorrow and that of my family i am the offender. Ten years ago i molested my sister. Betsy not her real name was Only 11 years old at the time. I was 22. Betsy was too afraid to turn me in to the authorities so she confided in a Young Friend who was being molested by her father. When the authorities questioned the other girl she brought up my name and i was arrested. I had heard All the horror stories about what happens to child molesters in prison and feared for my life. A detective came to my Home with a social worker. Much to their Surprise i confessed immediately and later that Day i was taken to jail. Unlike most other sex offenders i cooperated fully. And unlike most families in such situations mine was very supportive. Thank the lord they loved me and knew that i needed help. Like being an alcoholic its almost impossible to get Well on your own. Because of my family a willingness to stand by me i served a year in jail and was put on probation for seven years. The probation ended a few months ago. During that time i had group therapy and joined a support group called parents United. I can to say enough about this organization. It is terrific. Ann i want to say something to every adult or child who knows that molesting is going on. Done to just keep quiet and do nothing. This is almost As bad As being an offender. No matter who the offender is turn him or her in it is absolutely imperative that the awful secret be brought out in the open. 1 no longer need to worry about my world crashing Down on my head. It has already happened and i survived. My arrest and rehabilitation made me a free Man. I am no longer a threat to society. I feel like a decent person instead of a creep and i Hope and Pray my letter will give others who Are still out there the courage to seek help and live a decent life. A new York dear new York thank you for a most unusual letter. You have made an excellent Point that is so often overlooked and have performed a great service by sharing your experience. I appreciate your courage and your Candor. Child molesters Are not necessarily shadowy figures who Lurk around schoolyards with their hats pulled Down Over their faces. They can be a favorite Uncle or grandpa or a generous Good natured neighbor who enjoys taking kids swimming on hikes or to the zoo. They can be married or single old or Young ignorant or Well educated. Child molesting is a hideous crime. It robs children of their innocence and damages them in ways that often ruin their lives forever. These Little victims desperately need to be rescued As Early As possible. I urge everyone who is Reading this if you were sexually abused when you were younger please Tell somebody at once a a Friend neighbor a doctor a member of the clergy a Counselor or a therapist. The wounds will not heal by themselves. You need to talk about what happened to you and the sooner the better. C creators Syndicate in a writing about a problem i have. Its about orthodontic work for civilians. Where can we get it in a a 13-year-old girl whose father is not in the military but works for the army. I think that qualifies us enough for orthodontic work. He makes a fair amount of Money but he still can to afford braces for me and my younger brother and sister from the German dentists. That would be Way too expensive. My big sister came to Germany with braces and went to the German dentist whenever they needed adjusting and to take them off. That Cost 5,000 Marks. My dad does no to have that much Money laying around for the rest of us. We be been Here four years and will be Here another two. In a sick of hearing a just wait until we get Back to the that a too Long. Do you know How Many smiles in be had to keep inside and How much laughter four years Worth. In a not asking for free services but wed like to pay american prices. Two years ago my school dentist said i needed work done right away. Does anybody know anything that can help a name and location withheld editors note a col. Jeryl d. English orthodontic consultant he 7th medical come replies i Welcome the Opportunity to address the writer s concern about obtaining orthodontic treatment. At present. The army dental care system Here in Europe has an orthodontic staff shortage and a High demand for orthodontic care. The army regulation we must follow a 40-3, tells us that the priority for dental care is 1. Active duty members 2. Family members of Active duty 3. Reservists while in training 4. Retired service members and their dependents and 5. Civilian employees of the Federal government. In order to care for those with the most severe problems the orthodontist must first use the priorities listed above and then determine the severity of each patient a handicapping severe moderate or minimal. In almost All army communities those patients with severe and handicapping problems will receive treatment. Also patients who Are already being treated before coming to Europe must continue to be treated after their arrival which adds More patients to the list. Unfortunately for you As a civilian family member you would be fifth priority even if you had a severe or handicapping problem. I also would have to refer you to a civilian orthodontist As i routinely do for the patients i am unable to treat. If it is not possible for your father to afford a German orthodontist then your treatment will have to be delayed. You Are never too old for treatment. Today it is very common for adults to Wear braces. Remember a smile lasts a lifetime pen pals i would like to meet new people. A Teutila m.
