Bill Boyer principal at Pitburg Middle school has been selected As assistant superintendent of the District. Keric Ashley assistant principal at Munich High school was named principal of the Spang Dahlem Middle school currently under construction. Boyer a 17-year Veteran of the department of defense dependents schools began teaching overseas in Nimberg in 1973. He has served As a teacher and an administrator in Nimberg Ansbach and Pitburg and at Patch in Stuttgart. During the past few years he Nas been extensively involved in the development of mid level education practices and school based management programs for the Germany Region. He received a doctorate degree from the University of Southern California. Boyer will assume his new duties sometime this summer officials said. A Midland Texas native Boyer is married and has one daughter. Ashley began teaching sixth Grade in 1985 at Karlsruhe. He was promoted to education program manager at Munich elementary school in 1987, before moving to the High school As assistant in Cipal. The Long Beach calif., native received a masters degree from California state University at Fullerton in 1983. He is married and has one son. Ashley assumes his new position aug. 8. The new spa Dahlem Middle school that Ashley will head is expected to be completed before the 1990-91 school year begins in August. The new facility will House most of the students now being taught in 15 portable classrooms. Seniors awarded scholarships Wiesbaden West Germany t he association of supervision and curriculum development Germany has awarded two graduating seniors $1,000 scholarships. The scholarships went to de payment of defense dependents schools students Katherine Brown , osterholz High school and Stop Foster of Stuttgart. Brown is daughter of David Williams and Judith Brown. Foster the son a col. Steven Foster and Joster it is also Stuttgart a graduating class salutatorian. Top projects at Dodds fair Span Range of technologies by Jimi Jones education writer Frankfurt West Germany a one Many a Wood can be another a robot. Those at least Are the diverse paths William Sollberger and Frank Jary took to the top of the military school systems annual technology fair. The two were among nearly 600 department of defense dependents schools students from 23 Middle schools and High schools who entered projects in the 1990 overseas technology educators organizations sixth annual fair june 1 at the Terrace club in Frankfurt. The fair was an All Day event that allowed technology students to display their own creations in the five areas of technology education. Group and individual projects in Industrial arts graphic arts drafting and mechanical drawing automotive technology and electricity or electronics filled the display area of the club. Entries included everything from a beautifully carved Glass door Cabinet to chessboard clocks and a Model of an architectural dream House. The fair also featured a technology brain bowl in which teams answered technical questions for top honors. A in Many cases they be been working on projects since november a said Dave Izzo a teacher from Ramstein High school who helped organize the fair. A some May have been working a project since the beginning of the school year and others spend two or three months getting Sollberger an eighth grader from Mannheim entered three woodworking projects. One a plaque featured a baseball Bat mounted on Wood with his brother a name the Date and the league in which he played. Another was an Oak sled shelf designed to be Hung on a Wall at Christmas. It was Sollberger a second year at the fair but the first time he had entered an individual project. His group project placed first last year and his technology bowl team placed third. The Mannheim Middle school bowl team this year placed second. A a we re getting a Little better every year a Sollberger said. Being on the bowl team is a not As bad As giving a speech but you get sort of nervous up there and you think a what if i Buzz and its but i think its Worth trying. You Only learn from it you done to lose Sollberger has set some big goals for himself. And if his showing at the fair is any indication hell accomplish every one. A my first goal is to reach Eagle scout a he said. Later he wants to study Law a for engineering and architecture because in a pretty Good in math and i like creating he represented his school at the regional mat counts Competition in april and was recently inducted into the National Junior Honor society. If technical Fields have traditionally been the dumping ground for kids who did no to do Well academically times have changed. A we have a Good Cross Section of the student body those who Are College bound those who will be going to technical schools into the military and those who have outstanding craftsmanship and Pride in what they do. Jary is no Slouch in the academic department. The 18-year-old senior is co valedictorian of his graduating class at Gen. . Arnold High school with a 4.0 Grade Point average. In addition to calculus and physics he has taken French in and advanced placement English literature. He a Bis amps Scott a. Miller Wei Brocken Junior Lee Davis competes in the drafting contest at the fair. Lingual in German and English and has taken six years of French. And he a no bookworm. He lettered in Cross country and baseball was Active in the key club the National Honor society the student Council association and served As treasurer of the local chapter of students against drunk Drivers. Jary entered five projects including a robotic device that tests Light bulbs. A the robotic first screws in the bulb then uses a sensor to test whether its on or not then does the appropriate action a Jary said. A it puts it in one place if its on another if its he won first place with that entry and first place in the electronic Competition with an electronic Dice game. Jary and his partner Billy Holtham also won the Bridge building contest in which students Model Bridges were rated on their design and ability to withstand stress. Jary gave Holtham credit for that project though. A the did More than i did. He did some great Jary and Sollberger received $50 savings Bonds for their technology student of the year achievements. Technology instructors of the year were Barry Cox of Wiesbaden Middle school and Frank Pendzich of Wiesbaden High school. Military and civilian experts helped judge the entries
