European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - August 11, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse The stars and stripes Page 11 in try Landers dear Ann Landers once again i read in your column a letter from a Reader who would not consider divorce be cause she is a devout Catholic further evidence that people need to be better informed about the Catholic Church and divorce. I m a practising Catholic and i am divorced. Being divorced does not mean excommunication. Moreover getting an annulment allows remarriage within the Church. Annulment is now considered part of the Healing process. It is the Church examining the circumstances of the marriage and deter mining for specific reasons that a True spiritual Bond did not exist which Means the marriage was not valid. I Don t go around advocating divorce As a simple Solu Tion. No one who has been through a divorce would say it is easy. But in some instances there Are alternatives and the Catholic Church is beginning to recognize this. Many priests and other Church officials still need to be enlightened in this regard and those of us who have been through the agony of divorce Are attempting to do so. A Catholic caught in an intolerable marriage can find support within his or her Faith. If one encounters a priest with a closed mind look for another priest. Our Church does offer Comfort to those who Are hurting but to find it you must let those in authority know you need it. There Are a lot of us who know the pain of a failed marriage and we refuse to be rejected because we know that god has not abandoned us. Please spread the word. M n., Clearwater Fla. . Thank you for a letter that is certain to help a great Many readers. I received a pile of letters urging me to make it Plain that catholics should not assume that the Church expects its faithful to stay in marriages that Are intolerable. You said it Best. Ets 343-5741 or 5823 cafes explains its policy on rain checks i have always maintained that i d never be one of those people who wrote to the editor to Gripe about cafes i should know by now to never say never my problem started in april when i received a rain Check from the Ramstein a Exchange for a bookshelf that was on Sale. In May i saw the same bookshelf on display in the Exchange at regular Price. I asked the clerk on duty if i could pick up my shelf for my rain Check. She took my slip to the Back of the store to Check on it when she returned i was told they were All out again and to Check Back later. A month ago when i was in the Exchange Agai Surprise Surprise they had another bookshelf on Dis play for the regular Price again again i asked the clerk on duty if i could pick up my shelf from my rain Check. Off my slip goes to the Back of the store again. The clerk returned and told me she could t give me one for the rain Check. Tasked her the same question any red blooded cafes customer would Why not she explained that cafes policy is that All rain Check items Are Back ordered separately and can normally take six to eight weeks longer to receive than Normal orders she also told me it is policy not to satisfy rain checks even if the item comes in on a regular order. What she was told that i could buy the same shelf at regular Price if i was tired of waiting for the rain Check order to come in. What again i May be incredibly naive but i thought rain checks were to be satisfied first before the items go Back on the floor. I m sure if someone decides not to use their rain Check that cafes in t going to sell the left Over items at the old Sale Price they la sell them for regular Price i want to stress that both clerks i dealt with were extremely courteous. They were Only explaining policy to me the Only Way i kept my temper was to remind myself of that fact. But if that is cafes rain Check policy it s Rotten please help me find out if cafes really handles rain checks in this manner. Billic Ramstein a West Germany editor s note master sgt. Dayton p. Strickland customer relations he cafes Europe replies we Don t or i should say should t handle rain checks in this manner. You were Given some incredibly bogus information and for that we apologize. The policy is simple satisfy All rain checks As soon As possible with the Sale merchandise As soon As it becomes available or offer customers a like item at a similar discount if the item does not become available. Only six bookshelves came in and the first six persons Given a rain Check should have been called. But of of someone put them on the floor at the regular Price. The store manager was unaware of this and extends her apologies. Another Large shipment has come in and you have been notified to pick up your bookshelf. Again please accept our apologies and feel free to Contact the store or your Exchange manager when you come across a similar policy which just does t jibe.
