European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - August 15, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Wednesday August 15, 1990 the stars and stripes dear Ann Landers thank you for educating millions of people about incest. I am 42 and still recovering from my nightmarish childhood. The molester was my father and it started at age 7 and continued until i was 12. I was the victim of my parents sadomasochistic marriage. My father was a sex addict and an alcoholic. My Mother was a codependent a sex addict and an alcoholic enabler. In the eyes of the Community we were the perfect family. No one would have believed what went on behind those closed doors. The childhood sexual abuse caused me to have severe health problems As Well As trouble with school employment and social relationships. 1 Felt crazy and understand Why. Strange As it seems i never made the connection. The survivor of sexual abuse often has no memory of what happened. The violence is so intolerable that the victim Blanks it out. The technical word is dissociation. This is Why 1 Felt crazy. Nothing added up. The victim of sexual abuse de personalizes the offender especially if its a Parent or close relative and feels a sense of unreality. Later victims May have recurring nightmares or other sleep disorders. Even at College i would Wake up at 3 a.m., terrified that a Brown haired Blue eyed Man was somewhere in my room. For years i was deathly afraid of any Brown haired. Blue eyed male even in the safest environment. I spent 25 years blocking out what had happened to me. With the help of a psychologist support groups and most important a Loving supportive husband 1 am starting to feel like a Normal person. Incestuous families have a a no talk Quot Rule that keeps the incest going from one generation to the next. People like my parents find each other with amazing regularity. It is absolutely imperative that the awful secret be brought out into the open. I mind at All if you printed my name and Hometown. My father died in 1972 and i did no to shed a tear. His Tombstone should say a child thanks Ann. Writing this letter has helped me to dissipate some of my anger a Philadelphia dear Philadelphia letters such As yours perform a valuable service. Thank you for having the courage to write. Dear Ann Landers is this is a big City problem or what when i was growing up i was taught to offer my scat on any form of Public transportation to the elderly the sick or injured and especially to pregnant women. I am now seven months pregnant and am astonished at How few people have offered me their scat on a bus or inc subway. Ann please remind your readers that a pregnant woman is carrying anywhere from 20 to 40 pounds of v is Likely _ pain and her legs tire easily. The extra Load May cause extra weight. She is Likely to experience lower Back her feet to swell. Hanging on to a strap or a pole is extremely difficult with a a a new Center of Gravity. Please folks give a pregnant woman a break. While the occasional individual May decline the kind offer of a scat i believe the majority would thank you from the Bottom of their feet. A Sally p. In Toronto dear Sally Toronto i can t believe it for years in be been telling my readers that canadians have much better manners than . Citizens that they Are More cultivated considerate etc., and now this i d Tike to hear what you canadians think. Have i been mistaken All these years a o creators Syndicate Page 11letters a writer nostalgic about stay at bad Tolz besides the tourists who Are attracted to this area of Southern Bavaria most of us Are brought Herp to bad Totz to either be assigned to Flint Kaseric or to attend As a student the commands most prestigious no Academy. With its impressive history one should feel nothing but Honor and Pride to be a part of this Academy whether As an instructor or a student or even As a family member. We Are about to be a part of this history with its relocation to Grafe Wohr. As a family member i take Pride in being a part of this chapter in the history of the Academy. We met with Many negative remarks when first arriving those trying to bring us Down before we were even accepted for this assignment. Yet we tried to keep a positive Outlook on this new experience. A Small and close Community was the least of the obstacles which we encountered. The no Academy has influenced our lives with such Force a More than any other past assignment. We have had to adjust to the Many hours my husband spends in the classroom instructing or studying at Home to prepare for the next Day. We be Given up weekends to these students along with our family dinners but most of All our Quality family time. For 28 Days my spouse belongs to the no Academy and his students. Overall we have had to readjust our schedule to accommodate his life As an instructor. Although it has not been easy on us As a family we have done quite Well. Now with this relocation to Grafe Wohr there will be changes again that we must adjust to. Yet these adjustments will be minor compared to those we encountered with the Academy. We have found a sense of Security at Flint Kascmer. Our child has grown Independent and the closeness of inc Community has made this possible. The Beauty of the area is beyond comparison. The mountains which surround the land will be missed not Only by my family but by Many of the families who will be leaving bad Tolz with the Academy. Although there arc Many sacrifices that a family makes in being a part of the Academy life we must try to remember that our spouses arc there with these students to teach them leadership for they arc the ones who arc in fact responsible for the future leaders of the . We As family members should at least take Pride in inc responsibilities that our spouses arc Given. It is a sad thought to think of the last Academy graduation in bad tit la. This area will not Only be losing the 7th no Academy Plo but it will be losing a part of history. A Sandt Brown bad Tonz West Germany a a a. A a. Reader saddened by parents at Rob Ocop 2 dear parents i saw you this evening waiting in line to see the movie a pro Tocop 2?, rated r. I could Tell you were parents because Many of you had two or three children with you As you bought tickets. I saw the movie too and thought it was sad. You probably thought it was violent. Granted at last 30 human beings were murdered often by machine gun fire one Man was Cut open to kill him painfully a Skull of another was drilled open to steal the brain of the dying Man and another persons neck was snapped but it was really More sad than violent. It was sad because you were there with your children. Thirty percent of the audience was 13 or younger. The cafes manager told me that Only adults could buy tickets for themselves or their own children and people were asked. There Isnit More that the manager can do is there the movie showed victims shot As they fled. It showed Many police officers responding to the scenes of carnage murdered in the performance of their duty. One woman was injured and when someone tried to assist her both were killed. And we also saw a Young boy pick up a machine gun and kill at least two police officers. I lost count. You probably did too. These images show the rewards of being innocent trying to Rescue another person in need snowing the proper respect for Law enforcement and being a role Model for Young people. As an adult i know when violence in a film is gratuitous and so do you but the children you brought to the theater simply do not. They left the movie cheering for the violence the murder of innocents and responding police and the stupidity of trying to Rescue another human being. By. Being there you said these lessons were valid ones for your children. And that a Why the movie was a very sad one indeed.
