Dodds schools opened monday and that Means sports Competition is just around the Corner. In fact the Germany aaa and a Tennis squads Start serving saturday. Golf makes its debut sept. 7 football comes upon the scene the next Day volleyball and Cross country debut sept. 14 As does soccer which is a fall sport in Turkey. The fall sports Campaign continues through nov 17 when the last champions will be determined with the staging of the big schools and Small schools football championship games. The first champions will be named oct. 4-5 at the Central european Golf tournament at Berlin. So its time to get Down to business and As i Start my 22nd full year As the stars and stripes prep sports editor i want to take this Opportunity to Greet old friends and extend a cordial Welcome to All newcomers and anyone returning to Dodds after an absence. What is in store for principals athletic directors coaches athletes and fans my goals never  amps wants the 1990-91 coverage to be the Best Ever and i solicit the assistance of All the coaches in achieving that goal. Because of the new sunday Magazine and because a amps is shipping newspapers to saudi Arabia for our desert sni Elf participants deadlines have been pushed Forward at least an hour. So it is vital that we get reports on All events from the Home coaches As soon As possible following the completion of athletic events at their respective schools. Letters have been sent to All athletic directors detailing what we need reported on each sport. I want prep pickings to be interesting and fair. I intend to congratulate when orchids Are merited and i intend to chide when the situation Calls Forbes Abrams onions. Sex Heidelberg Star Eric Zeier the stars and stripes offensive player of the year As a Sophomore in 1988 before moving to the states for his last two years of High school Competition has been rated As the nations top quarterback Prospect As a senior at Marietta a High school in Don Heinrich a College football annual according to a letter and a photocopy Dodds Germany athletic coordinator Tom Leblanc received from Eric a father Rick. The 6-2, 205-Pound Eric Zeier also is listed As a quarterback in the sporting news preseason list of top 100 High school seniors and in Lindy a Sec football annual super preps top 25 seniors to watch and is expected to rate highly in the Usa today rankings. The sporting news and Lindy selections list their outstanding performers alphabetically. Only three quarterbacks que on the us per preps roster while the sporting news Chart shows 13. Quot my year observing the stateside recruiting process convinces me there Are athletes in Europe capable of playing College athletics but interest in their abilities must be generated Early in High school a he wrote.
