Most of us Are aware that the Middle East is strategically important to the United states in Large part because of our dependence on foreign Oil. Yet sadly Many americans Are unaware of the easy Steps which they could take to reduce our waste of Oil and other natural resources. There is an excellent paperback Book which is sold m stars and stripes bookstores for Only $4.95, that addresses this problem. It is called ?o50 simple things you can do to save the Earth a and it is a Best seller in the United states for Good reason. It is interesting thought provoking written in Plain English and suggests simple and inexpensive Steps to reduce our production of garbage our harm to wildlife and our needless overuse of water paper and Petroleum products. Please read this Book share it with friends and put its suggestions into practice immediately. Doing so will reduce our use of Oil and help to heal our ailing planet. Some of these ?o50 simple things include keeping your car tuned up. A Well tuned car uses up to 9 percent less Gas than a poorly tuned one. In other words if Only 100,000 car owners who have neglected their cars started getting regular tuneup some 90 million pounds of Carbon monoxide could be kept out of the atmosphere. Be sure to Recycle Crank Case Oil which makes up about 40 percent of the pollution in . Waterways. Driving less car pooling and turning off the engine when idling Are other easy ways to reduce our use of Oil. Insert a Brick or other a toilet Damn in your toilet tank. Each time your toilet is flushed it uses 5 to 7 Gallons of water. In other words if Only 10,000 people were to install a toilet dam 29 to 58 million Gallons of pure water would be saved each year. ?o50 simple things tells you How to do it. Aerating Shower faucets also reduces water usage by 50 percent because the Shower feels stronger when air is mixed with water As it leaves the tap. Snip plastic six pack rings. Millions of these rings end up in oceans and Freshwater lakes. Because they Are invisible underwater Marine mammals such As otters and seals cannot avoid them. Pelicans terns and other sea Birds Are frequently strangled by them. Snipping each ring before throwing it away is a painless Way of doing your part. Better yet avoid using these Petroleum byproducts by buying recyclable Glass bottles. Never use polystyrene foam including styrofoam egg Cartons Coffee cups and disposable plates. These products do irreparable harm to our air water and soil because they Are made with benzene a known Carcinogen and because they bombard the Ozone layer with rfcs when produced. Moreover styrofoam is completely non biodegradable. Even 500 years from now the disposable foam cup you used for Coffee this morning will litter our land. Styrofoam is also deadly to Marine life because it Breaks up into pellets and floats on the surface resembling food. When sea turtles eat styrofoam they Are unable to dive and often starve to death. Avoid Mcdonald a restaurants until they Complete their switch to recyclable paper. Use Glass mugs and paper not foam plates. Isnit that easy releasing plastic balloons into the atmosphere is harmful As Well As wasteful. Balloons released in the Midwest have been found in the Atlantic Ocean. Recently in new Jersey an emaciated 17-foot whale was found dead. An autopsy revealed a balloon with 3 feet of ribbon still attached blocking her intestines. Balloons and ribbons resemble jellyfish to sea creatures. Please discourage your school or Community group from releasing them As part of their celebrations. Planting Trees or organizing cleanup campaigns can be just As festive and will Benefit rather than harm the wild creatures with whom we share this Earth. And if every american family planted just one tree Over 1 billion pounds of a greenhouse gases would be removed from the atmosphere each year. These Are just a few Steps which each of us can take to do our part. Learning to tread lightly saves our air Money Landfill space Petroleum water and wild creatures. Taking these Steps and the others discussed in ?o50 simple things empowers you to get up and do something in your Day to Day life to help solve global environmental problems. Remember we did no to inherit this Earth from our ancestors we merely borrow it from our children. Capt.
