Considine Baltimore Sun Paul Barrere admits that one of the biggest differences Between the old Little feat and the version currently on the Road is that things Aren t As crazy As they used to be. Frankly he likes it better that Way. Why because it makes the music better for one thing. Quot a in to the fact that everybody is a Little older a Little Wiser and a whole lot straighter. The band tends to play with More consistency Quot he said. Speaking Over the phone from a tour Stop in Toronto the guitarist Singer songwriter said that the excesses of old Hurt the band As often As they helped it. Quot there used to be some really great shows with the old band but then there d be some shows where Peoples consciousness was maybe a Little too altered. There d be some heavy duty train wrecks on stage Quot he said. Eventually that kind of confusion began to take its toll and the group disbanded in 1979. A few months later Lowell George a Little feats founder and chief songwriter a died while on tour behind a Solo album the victim of Ando the talking apparently drug related heart attack. It took almost nine years for the surviving members to reassemble a time enough for Barrere and his band mates to gain a Little perspective on the Rock in Roll lifestyle. Quot i think everybody s attitude has changed a bit Quot he said. Quot when you re younger you have this feeling of immortality. And artists a whether they a re musicians or actors a tend to feel that their life is their work. So you re trying to do so much All at once. Quot but when you Start adding up the years experience tells you that there Are a whole lot of other things in life that you need to take notice of. So now its not such a do or die situation. The music is important and All but its not the Only thing in our lives. Everybody has families and taxes to Barrere thinks that today s Little feat has More Quot team feeling Quot than Ever. Quot we be been touring since late april with Only one 10-Day break at Home a he said. Quot and i can remember trying to do this kind of stuff years and years ago and we were just trudging around the country Quot but now the two hours that we spend on stage a that s the game. It s like let s go out and have a great time and win one for the Quot typically the band keeps the emphasis on the music rather than resorting to the sort of visual dazzle a lot of younger acts employ. Quot i mean we do have lights but Little feat s not the most visual of bands Quot Barrere said. Nor does he think it should be. Quot somewhere Back in the 70s or something the image aspect in Rock a no Roll took greater precedence than the music which is kind of Bass backwards Quot he said. Quot and then with the Advent of videos it s almost like you better have a better Hairdresser than a music teacher. Quot its an interesting concept and i think i there a room for both. But i think its Nice that people Are starting to recognize Good music and Little feat definitely prefers to let its music do the talking. Quot lets face it we re All 40 years old Quot a said. Quot we Don t want a lot of stuff jamming around on stage at Alt other than our instruments.
