It has upset our household and made me miserable. The message is As follows if your husband has no hobbies or outside interests insist that he continue to work at least part time. I am 61 and my husband a ill i Call him George a is 65. He is College educated and worked at1 the managerial level for a Well known company. His Job kept him Busy 12 hours a Day so i raised our four children with very Little help from him. Six months ago George retired. He never goes anywhere except to the hardware store. Everywhere i go he wants to tag along. The Only place i can go without him is to a ladies Only Church meeting. George does not play Golf or fish. He has no hobbies. I tried to get him to try gardening but he has no interest in landscaping or Flowers. He hangs around the Kitchen lifts lids and stirs my pots which drives me up the Wall. Before he retired he talked about travelling a when i quit  i would love to see Alaska or Hawaii but now they Are a too far  when George was working All his co workers remarked on How pleasant he was and How he never got angry. Now he complains about everything and if he does no to get things his Way he has a Tantrum. I am seriously considering a part time Job just to get away from him. In a not looking for advice Ann. There is no solution to this problem except to leave and in a too old to Start Over. I just wanted to warn other wives about the hazards of a retired husband. I Hope i did some Good. Sign me a its bumpy at the end of the Road dear bumpy take that part time Job and Check with every Volunteer Agency in town for things George might do to keep himself Busy while you re away. The daily separation will be like a Holiday for you and is sure to make life easier. Meanwhile my condolences and Good Luck. Dear Ann Landers recently you said the gypsies were mad at you because you used the expression a Gyp Ped in a column. You apologized. Take it Back. You never know from Day to Day which ones you la have to eat. Creators Syndicate commissary operating hours discussed i am writing in reference to your recent article on the Ramstein commissary. I can understand that they need to Cut Back on their hours a though i would have been one of the ones to enjoy the flexibility of 24-hours-a-Day shopping options. What i done to understand is Why the other commissaries done to pick up on the information gained in Ramstein their commissary was open 24 hours a and the Peak shopping was done Between 6 . And 10 . A hours most commissaries Are never open Here in Wurzburg the commissary is open two hours late once a week and the place is packed i understand that they can to add More hours to their schedule. But can to they change their hours to reflect the shopping needs of their customers they could shift the eight hour periods they Are open each week Day to cover More choices. I would like to see them adopt some sort of a shifting schedule during the week. Perhaps similar to this tuesday a 8 . To 4 ., wednesday a 10 . To 6 ., thursday a 12 . To 8 ., Friday a 2 . To 10 . And weekends could remain the Way they Are. With a schedule like that those who need or prefer earlier times would be accommodated As Well As those who prefer or need the later times and it would make shopping much More convenient for Many people a Catherine Jaime Wiir Burg West Germany editors note a col. Just two Days after we received it we announced in the stars and stripes that we were extending hours in three of our commissaries a Hanau Robinson Barracks and Heidelberg. We apologize for the delay in answering your letter but had been hoping to be Able to Tell you that the hours at the Wurzburg commissary were being adjusted. We Are working with the Community and Hope to reach an agreement soon. We have Long recognized the need to provide later shopping hours for our Many customers whose Busy schedules Are better accommodated by evening shopping but have been unable to do so due to budget constraints. Supplemental funding from Usa eur enabled us to extend hours in Hanau and Robinson Barracks to Midnight but we have tried another concept in Heidelberg that we May extend to other communities. We Call it a convenience time  in essence the commissary stays open later usually until 9 ., but in an Effort to remain within our budget convenience time shopping does not offer All the services available during regular hours. A couple of Cashiers and baggers provide their customary services but no stocking is done nor Are there meat cutters or produce workers available to provide services. The Delicatessen contract has been modified so that those services Are available and pizza and Frozen Yogurt vendors have the option to provide their services but All others that Are funded by the commissary system Are curtailed during these hours. Other communities May choose to request that convenience time shopping be implemented in their commissaries. The Community May adjust the hours allotted to their commissary As they desire As Long As the commissary remains within its allotted dollars and commissary staff capabilities. We Hope that this concept will prove to provide the later hours our shoppers would like without affecting our budget. Short haircuts Barber shortage discussed i have a question for cafes. Where do i have to go in order to ask for a specific haircut from an cafes Barber shop in English do i have to catch a hop to England i surely can to go into the Barber shop on base. Obviously knowing English is not a prerequisite for working there. It is rough enough being the Only air Force member in this area without having to Wear around an army Basic training haircut. I was under the impression that cafes raised the prices of its haircuts in order to attract the Best qualified people. Does knowing English count As a qualification i wanted to ask the manager but a scary thought crossed my mind a would the manager understand English i have no problems with local nationals working in our facilities but would it not be convenient if they spoke our language after All this is a . Facility. I am not totally anti cafes. Sure they have a monopoly but i feel cafes does a very Good Job trying to bring american products to service people overseas. With the american Dollar so weak it is a breath of fresh air to pay for products or services in dollars instead of converting to local currencies. However i also believe cafes needs More improvement in the service communication department. I look Forward to the Day when i can walk into the local cafes Barber shop and ask for a a a trim and not get a reminder of my Basic training. A name and location withheld editors note a master sgt. The fact of the matter is our contractors Are finding it increasingly difficult to hire Barbers who Are fluent in English because of the shortage of Barbers in Germany. Only 40 Barbers graduated from schools in Germany last year. For example the City of Frankfurt is Short 500 Barbers. If you think our prices Are High you should Check out the prices downtown then keep in mind the reason no one wants to be a Barber is because the wages Are too Low. I done to want to paint too Bleak a picture but facts Are facts.
