European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - October 26, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Ann Landers dear Ann Landers my partner and i made a formal commitment five years ago. Although our Union is not recognized legally the wedding ceremony was deeply spiritual. All our friends and family members shared in our happiness we Are Gay. A a Denny and i Are invited everywhere As a couple everyone thinks of us that Way. The problem we have been struggling with came to a head a few weeks ago at the wedding of Denny a brother. Denny is a great dancer. He never sits out a number. The women love to dance with him which Means i Ani left alone a lot. At his brother a wedding i insisted that Denny dance with me and he finally did. No one reacted at least we did no to notice any stares. We enjoy dancing together but we done to want to make others uncomfortable. Do you think its of we need an outside opinion. Jerry in . Dear Jerry in Eastern european countries men traditionally dance together. Nobody thinks its strange. If you and Denny want to dance together in the company of family and friends who Are aware of and accept your relationship i see nothing wrong with it. I assume of course that you mean conventional dancing a no lambada no Cheek to Cheek and no slow dancing with erotic overtones. Dear Ann Landers in a writing about the woman who Felt her Mother in Law should throw out All the old photos of her son and his first wife. I would agree with you that the wife was childish for making such an Issue of it but i was surprised that you did no to remark on the insensitivity of the Mother in Law for keeping a picture of her songs first wedding hanging in the recreation room. I am reminded of when i first met my own Mother in Law. I was nervous about it since i knew that a a Joe was the Apple of her Eye and i was afraid she think any woman was Good enough for him. Much to my Relief she turned out to be wonderfully warm kind and accepting of me. I will never forget the evening when she pulled out some family albums to show me Joe a childhood pictures. As we were flipping the pages she came across a picture of Joe and his first wife. Immediately she took it out and said a this does no to belong in Here anymore a and ripped it in half i can to Tell you How much that gesture meant to me. Needless to say i feel very Lucky to have such a terrific Mother in Law. Anchorage dear Anchorage i done to want to take anything away from your Lovely Mother in Law but a lot depends on How she Felt about Joe a first wife. Ill bet she likes you much better. I see nothing wrong with hanging a wedding picture of a son and an sex daughter in Law amid a collection of family photos. After All the first wedding was part of the family history and As such it has a legitimate place on the Wall. Dear Ann Landers in a a Call girl which is not quite the same As a prostitute. I enjoy my Freedom make very Good Money and have met some interesting men. But i am now ready for a meaningful relationship. Do you think a High class gentleman could handle my other life or should i keep quiet about it i Trust your judgment. Nameless in Sacramento dear Sac use your head girl. If you try to conceal your past you will live in fear of running into a former client who will spill the Beans. Tell him. C creators Syndicate Friday october 26, 1990 the stars and stripes a Fulda Marathon chaos described be 11letters i want to use your newspaper to convey a few words to the organizers of the recent Fulda Marathon. I was not a participant Only a Spectator but a few of my friends actually did run in the race. According to them and to numerous other runners i have talked to the race itself was a very Good experience a Nice Countryside Well marked course and Ideal weather conditions. It is too bad that this High Standard could not be transferred to the awards presentation at the fest tent following the race. To put it mildly it was chaos. After a while i wondered whether i had seen the same race the score keepers saw. It started with the presentation of a trophy for the half Marathon. Hundreds of people witnessed and cheered on a Young american runner who came in at an outstanding time a around one hour and 10 minutes. You can imagine my Surprise when somebody else received the trophy with a so called winning time of one hour 18 minutes. When we left the tent the Winner was still fighting for what was rightfully his. Then the team trophies were presented. The first prize was to go to a German running team from Fulda but All three prizes went to american teams. After a protest from the German team All trophies were taken Back and were Given to the right teams in the right sequence. During this disastrous event it was announced that runners who finished in the first three positions in each age category should go to the gymnasium for their awards presentation. Since nobody could present us with the final results there was no Way to find out who placed in those positions so everybody who thought he had a Chance at a medal went there. What happened then can Only be described As a disgrace. We had to wait around in the gym for two hours. The Only sports official there was an employee from the gym who got More nervous As time went by. Most of the people just gave up and went Home. After 5 . The names of the awardees finally made it to the gym a no final results yet but at least the names of the people who received medals. They were then handed out by the gym clerks in the same fashion one would get a Towel or a pair of shoes from them. It happened at the same Little window where you usually receive those items. There was no official ceremony no applause no congratulations Only a a there is your it is a wonder they did not add to it a but done to Tell anybody that you got a for a prestigious sports event which the Fulda Marathon claims to be this is an embarrassment. I done to understand Why those people a everybody just As much a Winner in their age group As the first place runners were of the whole race a did not receive their deserved recognition in the fest tent during the so called awards presentation. I am sure there was enough time to do so. Why did they have to receive the medals in a Way which made them feel like second class athletes the comments i heard from the German runners 1 do not want to repeat Here. 1 can Tell you they were not very Friendly. If you attempted to make this Marathon an event to support the american German Friendship Vou have failed. A name withheld Alt Hornbach Germany editors note a Lonnie Krogstad director for personnel and Community activities Fulda military Community replies your letter is uncomfortably close to being on target. Most of the 2,000 runners who participated in the Fulda Marathon races this year a More participants than Ever before a enjoyed themselves. A few did not due to problems such As you cited. No one feels worse about those problems then we do in Fulda. We be gotten things in motion to do better next year. We Hope that you come again and provide us with another report card.
