European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - November 29, 1990, Darmstadt, Hesse Thursday november 29, 1990 the stars and stripes a Page 11arm Landers dear Ann Landers i almost spilled my Coffee when i read those letters from couples who Shower together. Obviously Many people find the Shower a real turn on. I immediately ditched that column and Hope to heaven my husband does no task me where it is. Here a Why for More than 30 years he has been after me. The Man is never satisfied. I am not exaggerating when i say he is a sex maniac. We have made love a if you can Call it that a in the bedroom the living room the hallway his study my sewing room the dining room the Kitchen the Back porch the basement the Yard the car the driveway the garage in a chair on the Couch on the floor on the dining room table and under the Kitchen sink. The Only place that is my private Domain is the bathroom i made it Plain Early in our marriage that when i am in there he cannot come in. And now you come along and print All those letters from couples who Are getting it on in the Shower. Give me a break. Sign this a Hausted in Lorain Ohio dear Lorain when i think of All the letters i receive from women who Are married to a dead batteries a it certainly proves that life is unfair. Dear Ann Landers do you really live in the world you give advice about i doubt it. Your recent statement that Good manners can still be found everywhere certainly missed the Mark. Courtesy May be a Way of life in your office but try driving to the Airport and you will find that its in very Short Supply. Go to any Public High school and ask Young men to remove their Caps in the lunchroom. If you re Lucky you May escape with your life. Try being polite in a crowded gift shop when there a a Sale. You la be there when they close the store. Have you been to a movie concert or Church service lately two generations of to watching has produced adults who think incessant gabbing laughing hooting and Barking is Normal behaviour. Honolulu is the Only City i know where people occasionally stand up on the bus to offer a seat to the elderly or infirm. While mercy May still fall As the gentle rain Ann i have observed that Good manners have dried up completely. . In Lodi Calif dear Lodi i can to dispute a word. Dear Ann Landers i read with Pride your recent column in the fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel in which you printed the essay a do you remember who gave you your first break a the author was Harry Gray former chairman of United technologies. On mothers Day in 19791 received a card along with that essay. Harry wrote a you were the inspiration for this i am his sister. Harry was 6 years old when our dear Mother passed away. She asked me to look after Harry. I cared for loved and guided him despite my Young years and always knew that he had great potential. In a so grateful that the world has recognized his Many accomplishments a All of them achieved on his own. Lam appreciative to you Ann for your kind word and am glad that Harry is one of your favourites because you certainly Are one of ours. I Hope you wont think me bold for writing but i had to let you know How much i appreciate your recognition of my dear Gussie Gray Green dear Gussie i loved your letter and in a sure Harry will too. A soldiers should come first but do they How Many times has a High ranking individual said that the soldiers come first the american army has tried to follow this principle since Gen. George Washington refused to leave his tent accommodations in the Snow at Valley forge until after his soldiers were taken care of. I am an executive officer of a Rifle company in the infantry stationed a somewhere in saudi about a week ago i found a hotel that was allowing soldiers to use their telephones to Call the states. Our company has not had any real Access to telephones in our Many Days in saudi Arabia. Upon finding these phones i immediately started to shuttle my people in groups of four or five to Call Home. The hotel personnel were very Friendly and served a complimentary Orange juice to All soldiers waiting. The soldiers in my company while being very Dusty and carrying an unavoidable body odor from Field duty were very polite and paid their phone Bills promptly. Unfortunately this is a five Star hotel that houses Many journalists and certain army personnel assigned to escort them. Two Days ago i sent my fire support officer so to the hotel with More soldiers. The so Waitea outside the phone Booths As the soldiers used the phones. An e-7 came up and said soldiers were no longer allowed to use the phones. He explained that we had dirty uniforms a shined boots and smelled bad. He said this gave a poor representation of soldiers to All the journalists in the hotel. While irritated but familiar with the prejudiced treatment of line soldiers the so agreed to leave with the four men. He asked the e-7 if there was any problem in letting the soldiers finish the phone Call first and the e-7 said a no seeing this a major in command of the joint information Bureau approached the so and asked a can you read lieutenant a the so said yes. The major pointed to a Small sign on the Wall Between a couple of plants that said soldiers could no longer use the phones. The major then told the lieutenant to a get his deleted people and get the deleted out a the so obeyed the order promptly. Roger out. Three bags full the infantry a role is to be out front. We live out there away from air conditioning hotels structured buildings and telephones. We take what is offered and make do. But when soldiers on the rear Echelon have a much better lifestyle plus Access to very special items like phones we see a problem. All branches have Young married soldiers engaged soldiers soldiers with special problems. Unfortunately the rear Echelon has Access to phones and can address Many of their problems. The infantry does not. All the rear Echelon has to do at this particular hotel is take a Shower and change into civilian clothes that they were allowed to bring. The infantry must get permission to seek out another phone and Start another time consuming shuttle. Well do it because the Soldier comes first. But what do we Tell our soldiers during the next few weeks that we Are looking for phone Access How does my first sergeant explain to a 20-year-old Soldier that he can to Call his 19-year-old wife and 2-month-old child because he smells and his boots Are scuffed then How does the Soldier Tell his Young wife and child he can to Call Home because there Are no phones while the other wives in the area Are getting phone Calls the cliche a hitting Home has a new meaning on this inequity. Why do we continue to mistreat and have prejudice against the combat arms do we need to give journalists a misrepresentation of what soldiers Are really like when they done to have the facilities to stay spit and polished is Gen. Washington a Story to be forgotten or an example to be emulated who has the authority to really answer my questions and will he answer them i Hope so. Until then i have a lot of soldiers to talk to. Yes As the one writer said i do feel imposed upon by being called to Active duty but that feeling has never stayed my commitment to my country and the Freedom it stands for. I believe this commitment is shared by the 120-plus soldiers i came Here with.
