Yeltsin on saturday defused a dispute with president Mikhail s. Gorbachev reportedly saying his Republic would maintain much of its contribution to Kremlin coffers next year. While that is much less than the previously threatened 85 percent Cut the move still sent a Clear message that Russia could use its economic Power to push demands for greater autonomy for the 15 republics. Eleven Days ago the russian parliament had planned to Cut its $227 billion contribution to the $400 billion National budget Down to just $37 billion. Gorbachev angrily condemned the decision and said that if other republics followed suit it would mean the a collapse not Only of the Economy but of the  in negotiations Over the past few Days russian and soviet officials agreed that Russia instead would Cut its contribution to just under $130 billion Yeltsin said according to the Independent news Agency inter fax. It would keep about $65 billion to help cover the republics own budget deficit and would refuse to pay an additional $43 billion that soviet finance minister Valentin Pavlov demanded during the negotiations inter fax reported.
