The air Force is offering a variety of waivers for f?n5ce commit rents so that officers in non critical. Skills can separate or retire Early said officials with the personnel Center at Randolph fab Texas. Eligible officers can ask for a Date of separation through sept. 29, whereas officers who already have More than 20 years of service can retire through sept. 1. The air Force has placed several restrictions on the program. For example pilots in the ranks of lieutenant colonel and below Are ineligible. Medical officers air Force Academy graduates with less than five years of Active duty officers in formal training or professional military education courses and those who came on Active duty on or after Jan. 1,1989, Are also ineligible. Officers who Are being kept on Active duty by the services Stop loss program can apply for an Early out but they will not be allowed to leave until the Stop loss restrictions Are lifted or an exemption is approved a personnel official said. A Liberal waivers for most Active duty service commit ment Sare being considered to encourage officers to participate in the Early out program the official said. They include waivers of up to 12 months for those who attended the air Force Institute of technology up to 18 months for promotions up to 24 months for professional military education and other types of educational assistance and up to 36 months for navigator flying training. In addition waivers for service commitments incurred for various reassignment moves Are also available they include waivers of up to 18 months for moves within the Continental United states up to six months for moves from overseas to stateside and up to 12 months for moves from stateside to overseas. Unlike previous Early release programs sonic officers who waive a commitment to take an Early out will have to serve for a time in the individual ready Reserve. That policy affects Reserve officers who have be to Yeen eight and 20 years of service and regular officers \ with Between eight and 18 years of service. The air Force announced plans feb. 4 to Cut at least 14,000,officer positions during the next three years to meet reduced personnel Levels mandated by Congress. The Navy and army have no plans for similar voluntary a Early out programs for officers. However the Navy recently convened its first selective Early retirement Board to trim about 450 captains and lieutenant commander. The army which has used selective Early retirement boards regularly in recent years has however put All future plans for such boards on hold until after operation desert storm ends an army personnel official said.
