It pulled their weight in this time of great excitement and of welcoming everyone Home from the Middle East it seems to me that we have left out so Many of the people that played a vital role leading to a . Victory. Without the logistical support this outcome have been possible. One company that played an important role was the 20th Ord go in Dahn Germany. Does anyone remember seeing trucks carrying Load after Load Day after Day Down Highway 10 for the past several months this included american belgian and German trucks moving Ammu Nilion that our husbands wives dads moms and soldiers loaded in support of desert storm. These dedicated soldiers of the 20th worked monday through sunday 12 to 14 hours a Day. They knew they had an important Mission. They worked through rain Snow and freezing temperatures knowing they were needed. They gave up their private lives their families friends and even the fair free time to simply go to the store knowing it was necessary. This is their Job and they know that. We the family members of these soldiers Are so proud of what they did for the cause. We understood although at times it was hard to give up our time to go Thor. V / a we just wanted to let you know How proud and Happy we Are that you were there to support operation desert a storm. Quo thanks for the Long hard hours you All put in. Keep on charging. A Mary Griffith Parma sons German comparison in the March 22 Issue of the stars and stripes a letter titled a the pales Tinian israeli Issue a disturbed me by the false comparison of this problem to the Allied occupation of Germany after world War 11. A More Apt comparison i think could be made by loosing at the nazis treatment of the jews and the israelis treatment of the palestinians. Are not the palestinian refugee Camps in the israeli occupied territories nothing More than ghettos in the desert is not the israeli treatment of the palestinian people in these desert ghettos much the same As the brutal treat mint that the jews suffered under the nazis a a is not the israeli plan to banish All palestinians from their native land an israeli Pinal solution for the palestinian problem a lest anyone think that i am anti jew ish i saw some of the horrible nazi concentration Camps during world War 11. I was sickened a by the horror and the smells. I will never forget it. No matter what the race or religion of these pitiful people they were All human beings and their suffering should never have happened. I have also lived a number of years in the Middle East and have seen what the israelis have done and continue to do to the palestinian people. The brutal inhumane treatment imposed on the palestinians by the israeli regime is just As wrong. It should not be excused or condoned by anyone and i should think least of All by the jewish people. The palestinians Are human too a Charles e. Garrett Rorschach Switzerland being first does no to matter in a recent letter to the editor soldiers of the 541st Maint in were upset. They want to be known As the first soldiers to depart from fort Riley kan., for saudi Arabia. We All have a Job to do and must deploy when called upon to do so. There be a fight for the recognition of who left first. We Are All a team. We Are soldiers of the 545th trans act. We deployed from fort Riley on aug. 28 and were in saudi. Arabia on sept. 6. We Are not sure if we were first. Some maps departed during the same time Frame As Well. A setting a bad example i am writing in regard to the article a Maverick creates problem with his unorthodox i know it is impossible not to misspell a word occasionally but i think it is very unprofessional for a newspaper to print an article with a misspelled word in the headline. The stars and stripes is read daily by thousands of school age children and More care should be taken to set a better example for those who Are working so hard to improve their vocabularies. I done to claim to be an expert but let the proofreaders earn their pay. A capt. Gary Cooper Bamberg Germany robbing the dead i am both sad and appalled by the actions of coalition soldiers especially americans in the aftermath of the War. We condemned the iraqis for torturing people animals the environment Etc., but i done to hear any condemnations of our people robbing the dead such ghoulish acts As taking clothing jewelry Money and equipment was prevalent and in Many cases the items were Cut from the dead bodies. Where Are the officers and High ranking cos and where Are the army ethics in such matters its disgusting to know that bloody helmets and menus wedding rings have now become a trophy souvenir or some other ghastly Little Gem. you be enraged if a ring had been stripped or hacked off your dead buddy a Finger or would you if you took the possessions of one dead Man then what is the difference if you knew him or not. Goetz operation desert storm no press coverage i am writing in response to your article ?o1st army div savaged during my time Here in the Middle East i have noticed Many letters by units that Felt they did not get enough coverage the article was Correct except that the 3rd brigade 3rd inf div was not mentioned. A we deployed along with the 1st army div in their 1st brigade. Even though we were attached to the 1st, we were still 3rd inf div soldiers. Col. Riley was our brigade commander. I also noticed that there was no mention of the Bradley fighting vehicle. In our brigade two battalions 1/7 and 4/7, Are infantry. The other one 4/66, is an armoured unit. The Only other tanks were some attached to us from 1/35 Armor a 1st army unit. The 1st army div is a Fine unit but we led them in. Please give credit where credit is due. A Chi. Andrew Dewberry s. Hargis operation desert storm concerned about pets on March 6 and again on March 14, the stars and stripes ran pictures of operation desert storm soldiers with puppies. 0 at first glance this May seem very heartwarming. Bit please consider the consequences of soldiers making pets of dogs especially puppies. Within weeks or a few months these soldiers will leave saudi Arabia and the pets will be deserted. A a a /. A.
