As we wait for the Safe return of our loved ones we continue to respond to our code of Friendship. We pull and tug on those weak moments and now each Day they Are seemingly fewer. We have survived Quot our fears and have forged Strong values and loyalties. Now i understand Why the military created the Quot code of conduct Quot these Are not just words. They instill strength within. They push you Forward when fear and despair loom. They give you reassurance in your family and friends. Greatest of All they give you Hope and Security that you Are not alone. A Kathie Folkersen Derheim German give the process time this letter is to the author of a recognition of Black sacrifices sought and other letters like it. I must agree that Blacks along with Many others minorities have suffered great indignities since their arrival in the new world and it is not right. I am also a great believer in the . Constitution and All of the amendments that have followed. I done to think minorities should cry racism every time things done to go perfect. Slavery and repression of ethnic minorities have been practice since biblical times and in just a Little Over 100 years this great country has begun to change things. Changes like these done to happen overnight. I believe that Blacks were wronged in the past and even though i have not committed these wrongs i feel i am being made to pay for them because of the Adverse effects the affirmative action plan has on employment of White males. Recently some members of Congress have suggested reversing some civil rights legislation including affirmative action. If everyone would just let things take their course maybe All would turn out Well. These types of letters and beliefs Only Foster More hostilities toward minorities. All i ask is to give it a break. In my eyes and in the eyes of Many of my friends including Black friends letters like the one i mentioned Are racist in themselves. Try practising what you preach and lighten up. A staff sgt. Harold Meyers a sgt. Raymond a Meyers operation desert storm sour on czech shopping some months ago an article in the stars and stripes told of a Usa eur Soldier who had purchased some expensive chandeliers in Prague Czechoslovakia and was required to Pav a Verv Large tax to bring his chandeliers Back. My wife and i discussed the article with a Friend who told us How Good the prices were in Czechoslovakia and that the situation that happened to the Soldier was unusual and does not happen if you take a commercial tour. So my wife and i decided we would take a Lour to shop and sightseer. We departed on March 15 and proceeded to shop and Purchase a Cood number of items one of which was a set of chinaware. We packed All the items m the cargo department of the bus and the tour proceeded Back to Germany. When we arrived at the czech Bor letters to the editor Der the Border guards searched the bus and found two sets of chinaware one of which was mine and several chandeliers. The gaol explained that any Crystal or porcelain items that Cost More that 500 Koruna about $20 were to be taxed at a rate of 300 percent. This meant that the owners of the merchandise unloaded from the bus had to pay anywhere from $285 to $1,000 in taxes. Only one person had that Type of Money and the rest of us were Given the Choice of a having to pay or letting it we said we would leave it but were going to break it up into Small pieces. We started to break up the items but we were stopped by the Border guards. V the whole Point of this editorial is to reiterate what May happen when you go shopping in Prague. If i had another Opportunity to go shopping there i would sure give it a second thought because a the prices May not be so cheap or Quot the items May not be yours to i done to understand How Czechoslovakia which is a new free Republic expects to compete in the european and world markets if it is going to charge its customers a 300 percent tax on non essential items.
