To Wolfgang who went far beyond his Job description to ensure the pilots Down Range had halon Gas and said Quot its a Good feeling to know in a doing my bit a thank you. A to Ramona who typed those never ending messages on desert storm and who at night watched the War on television wondering if she was a widow and her soon to be first child fatherless thank you. A to Martha whose 12-hour, six Day week has made Israel eternally grateful and the world breathe a sigh of Relief thank you. Yes 1 realize there was no Down Day for us and very Little thanks came our Way but wed do it again if needed. Our thanks is captured on television As families Are safely reunited and As tears run Down our faces. We know we helped make that happen. You Are All my heroes. Thank you for allowing me the Honor of working beside you. You Are the a wind beneath Many a Joy Dickey Ramstein a Germany. A America Irule blessed to any american we have received Many letters from you so i wanted to write a few lines to express my gratitude to you for All the support you have Given us the . Military 1 while we have been in the desert we no doubt have had to give up a lot. For some of us this has meant living in tents surrounded by Sand and dust and sitting Down to eat res. We be endured scorpions Sand vipers and various Oiler unidentifiable creatures. We have rearranged and changed our lifestyles to meet the demands of our Mission. Even More some have made the ultimate sacrifice by losing their lives. We Pray their souls find a peaceful resting place with god. These Are some of the things we have done for our country arid the world. All of you who have supported us with All your patriotism also deserve to be acknowledged. This is Why i write to you today. It is because of your american spirit that we Are ambitious. Your Confidence has led us to Victory and your love will bring us Home. We acknowledge All the pain suffering and worrying you have endured for us. Quot i believe that together we have shown the world that we Are in fact the great and diverse country we claim to be. God has truly blessed America. A spec. Robert Wodarczyk operation desert storm letters to the editor done to forge the Reserve fans of saudi stove we would like to take this time to recognize an unnamed hero of operation desert storm who has been overlooked Quot the saudi stove. Not taking anything away from the Patriot missile system we would like to share How the saudi stove has proven itself in our eyes to be the hero of front line troops. From its introduction during operation desert shield its usage for warming cold res meals ready to eat to heating water for Coffee and Bird Baths sparked a buying frenzy its original Price of $3 skyrocketed to $30 within Days sometimes hours. But even High prices did not slow the demand because the stove quickly paid for itself 10 times Over. Also evident was the stoves ability to operate during Short stops throughout the 100-hour ground War. It was easy to set up take Down and store away in a matter of minutes. Even the shortage of kerosene was not enough to put it out of action. It was quickly solved with the introduction of a diesel and mogas mixture which Only proved its versatility to adapt and overcome in the face of dirty soldiers cold res and other adversities. We even found some stoves in iraqi bunkers and we arc sure the iraqi army would agree if they read this article on us heroic role during the persian Gulf War. Last we would like to thank China Tor the invention of the saudi stove. It has truly made our lives and a whole lot of other front line soldiers lives a lot cleaner sweeter and warmer. Anthony l Brown operation desert storm Ever since in be been Reading the stars and stripes one thing in be noticed is that the regular units of the Active duty army Are getting All the recognition for a Job Well done during the War. But what about the National guard arid Reserve units. We Are from the 3678th Ord co puerto Rico National guard. We were called to Active duty on Jan. 7, and we arrived at Bamberg Germany on Jan 19. A a we came from an Island where we have temperatures of 80 and 90 degrees All year Long. Adapting to the German weather was not easy but we did it. And for the past a i months our unit has been working 12 to 14 hours a Day doing our part for our country. Now the War is Over and we Are still working hard. A a a a a Quot a -. A. I think we deserve some recognition too for contributing Long hours of work to support the War. A spec. J. Anderson operation desert storm not Prima Donnas recently i read a letter that Crit planned about army aviators being Prima Donnas who do nothing but complain about flight time and who should All be in the air Force. It is unfortunate that some soldiers have such closed minds about what army aviation is and what we can do for the grou Iid commander so i Wilt take the time to explain it briefly. In a space of 45 minutes we can Send out 12 ah-64 Apache helicopters to strike a target 50 Kilometres beyond the Forward line of our troops arid kill 192 tanks a Mission the tankers or any other ground units Are incapable of achieving. As army aviators we Are capable of shaping the Battlefield for the ground commander and Are not limited by terrain. So in closing rather than complain about army aviation Why Don t you try and learn How we can help you a first it. Derek r.
