On the Way into the City As you enter from the South you pass what seems like mile after mile of shoe stores jewelry display cases and mom and pop shops. But just wait. Suddenly this Dull scenery transforms into a Gem hidden behind these 20th-Century storefronts. Tradesmen have been conducting business in Cadiz for More than 3,000 years when the phoenicians attracted by the Safe Harbor opened shop in the City s Market squares. They were followed by carthaginians and romans who made it a Rich City and then the moors. Cadiz became the Headquarters of the Spanish treasure Fleet and shortly after the discovery of the new world the wealthiest port in Western Europe. Today Street vendors work from tables in the shadows of the old Cathedral and within earshot of the pounding Waters of the Bay of Cadiz that strike projection of land on which the City sits.
