To make it worse another unit in his battalion was sent. Why he feel let Down this was his Chance to really utilize his 10 years of army training. As for the waiting spouses i sym a. Thine with your ordeals but i am disgusted with some of the hostile indifference heaped upon the wives of the a Sun chosen our Guys have to pick up the Slack for the deployed units sometimes working 18-36-hour shifts. How Many times have i asked a desert storm spouse for a lift to take my handicapped son to his much needed therapy Only to hear a your husband in t deployed. Let him take he is in a critical Job and does not get time off easily the Bottom line is we Are All in this mess together lets Start acting like it. Also the College classes would be a Boon to some of us who afford them otherwise. A Eva m. Goehring Kaiserslautern Germany rious service medals Are Only for 7s and above if an 4 through 6 does something that should warrant this award it is almost always downgraded to an army commendation medal or an achievement medal. I think this is wrong. People should be rewarded for Merit and not to rank. A spec. John g. Edwards Kaiserslautern Germany editor s note too much Pride historically most successful military operations have ended with a Victory Parade or some form of Celebration. This is understandable. But the recent Gulf operation More a Field exercise than a War has resulted in unabated boasting and gloating on an unprecedented scale by americans in general but by . Armed forces Media in particular. The american forces network television and radio have so misused and abused the terms a a proud and a a Pride As to discredit and debase their meaning. If i never hear the word a a Pride again it will be too soon. Pride is a pompous and intellectually demeaning word at Best. At its worst it conforms to the dictionary definition As a excessive self esteem haughty arrogant a would a people possessing True Pridith feel the need to orchestrate an endless it and shameless propaganda barrage Tor convince themselves who else that they Are proud and Superior in the manner of integrity and honesty True Pride shines quietly through Jike the rays of the Sun. It reflects dignity restraint and self respect. It is never boastful or self seeking. A Quot a those who truly possess this simple virtue will never feel the need to flaunt or advertise it. Pride degenerates into selfishness conceit and arrogance when it is self proclaimed. Is it not Long past time for americans to show some class and a Little dignity by ceasing to blow their own Horn a Paul j. Rose Kaiserslautern German awards by rank i am a specialist in the . Army and i am having a Little trouble understanding the army a unwritten policy on awards and decorations. I can to understand Why awards Are Given according to rank and not Merit. 1 see Many lower enlisted people who do not receive awards they deserve for work they have done. Meanwhile cos and officers who spend less time deployed or have not done anything deserving of an award get awards for things they had Little or nothing to do with. Is it an unwritten Law that Merito. Letters from readers expressing their viewpoints or opinions Are published daily in this space. All letters must be signed. Provide taxi service i am a uh-60a Crew member from Mainz Fin then Germany currently deployed to operation provide Comfort or should i say operation provide taxi service. Our unit was deployed Here on the Assumption that we would Fly food water and other much needed supplies to the kurdish people in the Mountain Sites in Northern Iraq. To Date very Little of that Type of flying has been done. Instead the tour helicopters take off every Day filled with visiting generals . And foreign and a handful of . Senators and congressmen or anybody else who wants a guided tour of a kurdish Camp Sites. V we land. They get out and walk around take photos of the kurd like they were in the zoo then they jump Back in the helicopter shaking their Heads saying this is terrible what these people Are going through. Then its Back to a Safe Semi clean base Camp for another zoo tour. Please done to get me wrong. The other units deployed Here Are doing a fantastic Job in provide Comfort and the Camps Are rapidly being emptied. The kurd now have a Safe clean place to go thanks to the combined Effort of All involved. But in these Days of the army cutting Back on spending i feel there is a lot of wasted Money in running a taxi service. The Money could be used for something worthwhile. A sgt. Andrew t. Bender operation provide Comfort abuse must be punished an education program which totally explains the family advocacy program is severely needed in Usa eur. Cases of child and spouse abuse must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law and the health care system must be made fully available for. The abused As Well As the abuser. Currently this is not the Case. Family advocacy Case management team fact protocol and procedure is no substitute for Case prosecution and medical treatment. Fact personnel letters to the editor Are thought to he protected und crud ministrative Law privilege if they actin Good Faith. However the procedures of the fact allows a factual and untruthful information to be presented As truth. This occurs More often a than thought. \ the fact sets its own rules for evidence serves As its own investigative body its own judge and jury. The Bill of rights of our Constitution guarantees due process a protecting the abused As Well As prosecuting the abuser. The fact prevents due process. Persons who break the Law do us All a disservice. Whether it. Is an abuser or a a a committee which thinks they Are acting in Good Faith abuse is abuse. Uphold our Bill of rights for everyone. We Are All responsible. A Garry Morgan Sembach German yarn ads worthwhile in reference to the individual who wrote the letter a give us a break an a. I would like to exclude myself from the category of individuals who would rather watch Static than a Ugast Hausa and an commercials. Granted a a Gasthaus May not be an action packed thriller but it obviously Wasny to created for that purpose. It is however a Short five minutes of providing Community service messages. Not every topic is of interest to me but it May be to someone else. Our armed forces overseas consists of a very diverse population with varying interests which an has the difficult Challenge of trying to meet. I feel that the majority of the commercials presented Are excellent Educa. Tonal resources and can be very informative. Stateside commercializing takes another approach. By waiting until the damage is already done they advertise for psychiatric hospitals lawyers and funeral Homes. 1 applaud the an Effort to educate and possibly prevent some tragedies before they occur. You May choose to watch the com Erie rials or not just like in the states. However in a society where child abuse and neglect drinking and driving drug abuse and Many other unnecessary trag indies occur i think the intelligent ones Are those who at least consider to the an commercial messages.
