    European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - June 13, 1991, Darmstadt, Hesse                                By Ken George staff photographer i be always been intrigued with windows. Mostly in the sense that they Are opening into other worlds and reflections of our own. Windows Are primarily for seeing out of and seeing into. Sometimes just for seeing. Many Are Little More than Large sheets of Glass while others Are the finished work of a Fine  recall once passing through a Small Montana town in the very Early morning. Inside an envelope of Rushing wind and the steady muffled Roar of the motorcycle engine i watched the windows flow past. At a tiny wooden police station a Chubby round faced Man sat at an aged cluttered desk with a cup of Coffee. Reflected in the Glass front of an untidy filling station i watched. Myself Glide by the silent Gas pumps like a galloping ghost. The windows let me see myself. During the Summers As a boy on my Stepfather s Montana ranch when thunderstorms would keep me inside i d Rush to the barn  into the Hayloft. Then i d pull out stacks of old comic books and magazines that i d stored there for such occasions. While rain played on the Steep shingled weathered roof i would spend hours next to the barn s sole Small window in the loft studying pictures of faraway people and places. Staring out the window i could see in the rivulets of rain and in my imagination All those people and a. Places. A a a a a a a a a Quot. A. Today i live in one of those faraway places and i be been to Many others. I have discovered there Are few places where windows a  intriguing than herein Europe -. V a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a. A a when you look at them or through them you  new cultures new ways of life. You can see something. About the place where you live and the other folks who live there too a a. Still most of us take windows for granted. Or Al least it s that Way until we see one that has been broken. And then it is somewhat sad As though in some Way we feel obliged to take it personally. Sort of like an old buddy fallen on hard times. So look at the windows on these pages and the ones around you. Don t wait a they could soon be gone. Simple decorations help bring a touch of life to a window in Munster Germany
