South Africa was banned from the olympics because of its policies of racial separation. A i would like to congratulate the South african National olympic committee a Sam ranch said. Sam ranch formally readmitted South Africa on the recommendation of the Ioco a apartheid and Olymp ism commission which met with the five leaders of the interim National olympic committee of South Africa. But South Africa fulfilled the Ioco a main condition for reinstatement in june when its parliament repealed the last Legal pillars of apartheid. The South africans have also largely complied with the Ioco a demand to unite the country a racially separate sports federations into single non racial entities. At its session in Birmingham England last month the Ioc empowered Sam ranch and his executive Board to reinstate South Africa once they were satisfied the conditions had been met.
