I have. In be been Cut off and almost run into parked cars while driving by some a a polite German so he could be in front of me at the next traffic Light a full 150 feet ahead other courteous and Friendly germans have come out of the Blue and elbowed their Way in front of me while standing in lines at stores fests and bakeries apparently because i was the Only a ugly american standing in that line. My personal favorite has to be Frau German american relationships a a German woman who nearly knocked my 2-year-Otd son under the hooves of a Pony at a fest As she attempted to push past us to jump the line and place her 7-year-old son pacifier in Mouth on the Pony we had patiently been waiting for. I could go on but the Point is should we As americans feel guilty or ashamed every time an a ugly american does his thing not me. I will never be ashamed of my heritage nor will i kowtow to German friends on behalf of my a a ugly countrymen. Wake up and look beyond those a a ugly americans. You will find germans every bit As loud disrespectful ostentatious boisterous and ignorant As those americans you find so disturbs me that a senior no would put into writing that he a would no to be caught dead admitting that most of you Are my fellow most americans a a ugly or not would probably agree with me that some germans can be very rude themselves. Unlike you 1 still enjoy interacting with the German people warts and All and 1 really done to expect my German friends to apologize for every breach of the Golden Rule committed by their countrymen As you seem to expect from us about our countrymen. Gilmore Bamberg German liked feline humor when i read Patrick Mckennas column in the sunday magazines a be our guest a there were tears in my eyes. I was not crying because i was upset at what 1 was Reading but because i was laughing so hard i had fallen off the chair i was sitting on. I own three cats and love them very much but i still managed to see the humor in this column. 1 have no doubt at All that Mckenna has no intention of dropping a cat from a Balcony or feeding a feline to a pit Bull. And i could t agree More about a cats being As dumb As a Box of Kitty my cats nicknames Are dumb dumber and dumbest so in response to the letter writer who was shocked and angry with the column All i can say is lighten up and see it for what it is a witty and amusing piece meant to be to Ikon with a Pinch of Salt. Thank you Patrick Mckenna for brightening my Day. A mrs. I have nothing but the deepest respect for All the personnel who were involved in the conflict in any Way shape or form. Now in a stationed in Naples again. When 1 see the letters in the stars and stripes about a who had the toughest Job in desert storm desert shield a or the a Why was my unit not mentioned letters i feel a Little discouraged. You All did an outstanding Job. You All deserve All the Praise and All the honors that Are being bestowed upon you. All the wives husbands who did not deploy Are also to be commended As Are the personnel who manned the units and bases Back in the Continental United states or wherever these units deployed from. Most of you worked Long hard hours to Complete your duties. I think that its time to return to the business at hand and to get on with it. Done to glory by Finger pointing and accusing. It Isnit always the Case that at the time of enlistment the service member is in any meaningful Way aware of a possible future requirement to kill. At Many recruiting offices in the states that sort of awareness is intentionally stymied. True the recruit must sign a contract which states that the recruit is prepared for such events but this is smoothed Over by recruiting of Fiers who try to direct the potential recruits attention away from this aspect of the military. Also enlistment for Many people comes at a time of something like desperation when there seems to be no other options. One May not be inclined to consider possible problems As carefully As perhaps one ought at this time. Many enlistees find themselves intensely bothered during Basic training by things like Bayonet training and the cadences they have to sing. They Tell themselves a and Are told by their sergeants a a they done to sweat it this la be Over soon and then its smooth when the military is your Only Chance for a stable life you re inclined to put off questions a up to a certain Point. For a number of service members that Point was last Winter when it looked certain that there would be a War in the Gulf. It is to the credit of the . Letters to the editor military that it adheres to the Basic american value of Freedom of thought and belief by providing for conscientious objection in the regulations of All branches. Some of the people who suffered the most during the Gulf War were the conscientious objectors. In the desert they were harassed by the other soldiers and by their chains of command they were Given extra duty a lots of it. A few of them heard death threats. A a As a military Counselor 1 spoke to Many service members before and during the Gulf War. Many said that they actually wanted to file for conscientious objector status but were afraid of the consequences. I appreciated that honesty. I also appreciated the courage of those who filed and i can Tell you they did rough it. Many of them still do. A Mike Ehrlich Frankfurt Germany peaceful Mission 1 am in a signal company deployed in Northern Iraq for operation provide Comfort. Granted i do not see much or any action. However there Are Many other soldiers who do a some of whom have lost their lives. My question to the decision makers is How Many More american lives have to be taken before we end this Mission 1 understand the plight of the kurdish refugees but the fact remains that they had problems before we came. They will have problems after we leave be it next week or next year. I also understand the time needed to a draw up Quot agreements with the iraqi government stating the kurdish people will go unharmed Etc. At the same time however. I do not believe the promises to be made by the iraqi government will be kept. We were told before the War that America would not support this country after the War i hate thinking that even a Penny of my tax Dollar is coming Here. I Pray that not another life is taken during this a peaceful a spec. Jack j. Archer operation provide comfor Frankfurt dental void this is to let the people of the Frankfurt Mainz Wiesbaden and Darmstadt areas know of the problem they currently face. The 122nd medical det is still deployed in saudi Arabia. We just found out our redeployment Date has been pushed Back for the second time. It is now sept 1. 1 am a dental officer. What concerns me is that the Reserve dental officers left the Frankfurt area in the March april time Frame. This has left a Large void in the Frankfurt dental activity. Something had to give. That something is dependent dental care. Currently the Only Way dependents can be seen in these areas is on an emergency basis. What kind of system is this that would leave these people without care for six months one of the benefits of being stationed in Europe is free dependent dental care. This has been taken away from the people served by the 122nd medical det. My command has informed me that the reason we Quot have yet to redeploy is because 7th medical come and the department of the army cannot agree on a method of replacement. What can be the difficulty in replacing a 54-Soldier . Dental detachment it s 187 Days in saudi Arabia and waiting. A capt. David Kryszak operation desert storm
