Fourteen caution flags which consumed 105 laps slowed the race with accidents knocking out pole starter Sterling Marlin former Winston cup Champion Bill Elliott and Winston West series Points Leader Mike Chase. Only 14 of the 36 starters were running at the finish of the 5-hour, 12-minute, 52-second event. Caution periods were the Only thing that kept the Field close to Bodine. The races final restart on the 434th Lap allowed Bown to close up on the leaders rear bumper. A Flat left front tire however Cost Bown a Lap in the pits just seven laps later.
