In the past 63 months i have observed an army that is loaded with maturity and discipline. The army of the 1990s is not the Marine corps or the army of her fathers Era. Today a army is the Best educated Best trained and Best motivated Ever. Today Basic training platoons consist of High school and College educated men and women not men who were offered the Choice of jail or the army by their Hometown sheriffs. Today a Soldier trains on maintains and employs Multi million Dollar miracles of technology. 1 am compelled to mention one important thing about today a army. There Are women in the army now. The writer seems to feel that women do not belong in the Barracks. My wife a proud sex Soldier spent More than a year living in Barracks. 1 have watched women wearing the same Green outfit As myself drive 5-ton trucks through minefields in Iraq during the most incredible artillery barrage in the history of land warfare. In today a army the woman a place is wherever she aspires to be. I was Happy and proud when the news broke about Gen. Crosbie e. Saints and command sgt. Maj. George Horvathy a policy changes regarding life in the Barracks. The new visitation and alcohol consumption a a Laws blasted by the writer were not the Radical ideas of her spouses Chain of command. These decisions were made at the very top of Usa eur in response to the Quality of today a men and women in uniform. I applaud their decision. The writer finishes with a there Are some things that the army just mess with a god soldiers Well being and a lady s that is absolutely right. Religion does not run the army we do. The soldiers Well being is of the utmost importance and a lady a place is wherever she wants be it the Barracks or the cab of a 5-ton truck. A sgt. Kenneth g. Brodhead Ansbach Germany singles count too single soldiers Are people too. Because someone is married does not by any Means make someone More responsible or a better person than anyone else. Unlike single soldiers we married people Are granted a place outside the Barracks to reside with our wives and or families. Single soldiers Are Given a roof Over their Heads and a meal and thank god for that let us remember that this is their Home. They Are not criminals therefore they should not be treated As criminals. Why should single soldiers be exempt from the privileges Given to those soldiers who Are married simply because they might choose to be single while it is agreed that some bad can and undoubtedly will come of this situation we cannot punish All because of what a few might do. Maybe this will help a Weed out those who Lack the responsibility it takes to be a Soldier. A spec. Jorgensen Schweinfurt Germany live adults a break in a writing in regard to the letter a get on the right just because service members live in a Barracks does no to mean they should have limitations on the amount of alcohol they can consume. On letting women and men assuming the policy also includes letting men stay in women s Barracks in the Barracks overnight Well in a sure people Are mature enough to sleep with whomever they want when they want. As far As adultery goes maybe the married Man or woman who consents to this be married. It is not fair to say that because of a policy change of opening the Barracks up to different sexes adultery will increase. The Bottom line is if you re single and live in the Barracks or married and reside in quarters you re an adult and Are old enough to use your own discretion. With All the emphasis on discrimination in the military everyone should be treated fairly not Over whether they re single and live in the Barracks or married and reside in on base housing. As stated in the a tide the regulators were a a manhandled by the Pir Masens team havoc. After our initial reaction to this comment which was outrage we had to laugh. Obviously the reporters who covered the tournament knew about As much of paintball As did the officials fielded by Heidelberg outdoor recreation. During a 45-minute game which was supposed to last Only 30 minutes the havoc team eliminated five of nine regulators. Four regulators held off eight havoc team members for More than 20 minutes a not allowing any advancement toward the Flag station. As time expired the havoc team emerged with 18 out of 100 Points and the regulators with 6. In simpler terms this was a very close game. And As far As a walking off the Field in a Huff and a forfeiting their remaining two games a the regulators did not forfeit. They were disqualified for being five minutes late for the second playoff game. After the a extended games with havoc the regulators were allotted 15 minutes to go Back to our filling station reload and clean our weapons refill with air re Chronograph our weapons which the opposing team neglected to Doand return to the playing Field. When we appealed this Call to the official he politely asked the other team if they would like to play and take a Chance of losing or stay with the disqualification. Coupled with the disqualification Call inexperienced officials a controversial game with havoc and several questionable rules put out by Heidelberg outdoor recreation the question on whether or not to withdraw from the playoffs was put to a vote. And As the vote was unanimous the regulators withdrew from the playoffs. A Jeffrey j. Allen team Captain regulators Mannheim Germany thanks for abortion View dismissing school myth congratulations to Renate Hicks Erika Doughty and spec. Reginald Carnegie. In a recent stars and stripes feedback Page you answered a a not to the question a should military hospitals be allowed to perform abortions a it amazed me to read that the 11 others All said yes. You will not find me demonstrating in anti abortion rallies. I will never join in with those who become a Public nuisance to clinics that help women receive abortions. Yet i cannot help but wonder does no tour god who creates each tiny life in the darkness of the womb feel his heart pierced every time a doctor invades the womb and snuffs out his Handiwork a Kathleen Ford Augsburg Germany paintball is a sport this letter is being written in reference to an article on paintball oct. 12. I am the team Captain of the regulators from Mannheim and after my teammates and 1 read the article we were outraged. To those who play paintball it is not just an a outrageous mix of fun and War Quot it is a very competitive sport. It is a sport where players put More of themselves physically As Well As emotionally into a 30-minute paintball game than most other athletes do during the duration of their games including football. The regulators entered the tournament top seeded in their division. During the tournament the regulators swept through their division eliminating every opponent faced. The regulators fielded Only nine players not 10, in every game. As a Dodds teacher who for the past six years has lived across the Street from a German elementary school in a fed up with everyone from Lee Iacocca on Down raving about the 220 Days that German children attend school. Yes German children do attend More Days but Hasni to anyone realized that the students Are dismissed at noon i have not observed a child or teacher in the school across the Street on any school Day after 12 30 . I ran into this same problem a few years ago when i tried to plan an Exchange program Between my classroom and another primary school German class. The German schoolchildren could visit us Only in the mornings because of their Early dismissal. Again in the mid-1980s, when some of our teachers tried to organize a group of German and american teachers the German teachers complained that a meeting at 3 30 . Was too late for them since by that time they were already at Home.
