The Grant will pay for at least three workshops at army Community youth centers in Germany and Italy a among other overseas locations a said maj. The three Day workshops will train youth Center directors who in turn will teach volunteers and newly hired paid staff members about working effectively with children and applying youth development strategy in Community programs said Jack Reinholt director of the clubs human resources offices. Staff members from the boys and girls clubs Are still developing the workshops but they Likely will be made up of eight hour Long training units Reinholt said. A we Felt it was important to launch this program overseas because Young people often feel isolated in a foreign country and they done to have the recreation and social programs which Are available in the United states a Wilde said. Specific dates and times for the training workshops have not been set Reinholt said but the clubs have two years to use the Grant. Each overseas military Community a youth Center will be invited to Send up to two representatives Wilde said. A Pilot workshop will be held in South Korea in Early 1992 to test the program. While the Pilot program will be held for army youth Center directors air Force and Navy youth Center directors will be invited too she said. A it was decided to test the program in South Korea because it is a More manageable size than Germany a Wilde said. The army youth services program caters to More than 400,000 children and youths Ages 6 to 18, around the world she said. The program includes sports and fitness Leisure and social recreation and youth development. Youth development is expected to Benefit most from the training workshops Wilde said. Experts from the University of Northern Iowa Home of one of the country a most prestigious youth development curricula Are now preparing the training course she said. About 23,000 volunteers work at army youth centers around the world Wilde said compared with 15,000 paid employees. A in the past getting effective people was hit or miss a she said.
