I done to share his views. Although i recognize that there May be some commanders supervisors who have preconceived ideas about what rank Structure should get what award i am convinced that this is not a systemic problem. Further i strongly believe that if award recommendations Are Well written and Well justified the overwhelming majority of the time they will be approved for the level of award recommended. If and when a recommended strongly feels that this has not happened he she can ask for reconsideration. The problem is that most supervisors do not justify Well enough the award they recommend they often recommend a higher award expecting it to be downgraded and in the instances where they truly believe the Soldier has earned a higher award they often fail to follow the procedures to seek a reconsideration. Supervisors who truly care about How their top soldiers Are recognized will put Forth the time and Effort. This is not something the individual Soldier should be doing. Most people have an inflated View of their contributions and if they could recommend themselves they would always have the top awards. What shape would the awards system be in then what value would the awards have. I have recommended Many soldiers for awards and in 14 years i have Only had three that were downgraded. Of those three i personally sought reconsideration for two and in both instances the Soldier received the award i originally recommended with no revision of the original justification. All it took was for me to show that i Felt very strongly about the Soldier getting that particular award and most importantly emphasizing that the Soldier truly deserved it. When it comes to award recommendations if you Are sincere honest and realistic with yourself and with your soldiers they will get what they deserve. A master sgt. A. Robert Brewer Nienburg Germany a ?don9t preach to Hunters As for wildlife populations being artificially manipulated by wildlife managers better think again How you define a artificially manipulated. Whenever a Bulldozer Blade carves out another housing development tears up another Hillside for skiers or makes letters to the editor another Road wildlife is being a artificially manipulated through loss of habitat. Long before there was Peta or the humane society there were Hunters who were concerned about wildlife. As far Back As 1680 in Rhode Island there were Laws restricting Deer Hunting brought about by Hunters. That a right we restricted ourselves. Early in this Century Hunting licenses came into widespread use As a Means of financing wildlife game and non game management. In 1932 Hunters had passed the Pitman Robertson act which imposed an 11 percent tax on All firearms and ammunition. That Law has since been extended to fishing equipment and Archery equipment. All of the Pitman Robertson Money goes to wildlife management. A Dewayne t. Currier Ramstein a Germany a a a a matter of attitude for Days in be been Reading letters that debate the Virtues of Hunting and Hunters in general. I think there is some a confusion out there and would like to try to straighten it out. Unfortunately the English language does not have a word to differentiate Between a Hunter and a person outdoors with a weapon intent on killing game. Consequently when you hear about an incident like that in Riverside wash., a a Hunters Are blamed. Trust me these Guys May have been Hunting but they Arentt Hunters. As a Hunter of 15 years i can Tell you that being a True Hunter is an attitude. A the pure enjoyment of being in nature is not the whole Story but does a fair Job of wrapping it up in a sentence or less. Contrary to another writers suggestion a walk in the Woods wont reveal the things in be seen while Hunting. I doubt most people would go into that terrain for recreation or stay still Long enough to really see what a going on around them. Matching wits with game in their habitat is another source of enjoyment for the True Hunter along with the Challenge of locating and Reading signs. The humane taking of game is the Reward of a successful Hunt and i know of no real Hunter who lets the meat go to waste. Next time you see holes in a Road sign or hear of someone Hunting on private property without asking permission first or read about some joker taking game without a fair Chase remember they Are not Hunters. To require a receipt for refund of a recall commissary item appears to be the height of bureaucracy. How Many people retain commissary receipts after they get Home and double Check them if they indeed even do that much ? i doubt that even Denise gnomes spokesman for the defense commissary Agency european Region keeps her receipts. I Hope she did no to have any of the recalled items. It also troubles me that stripes personnel just blithely accepted the remark without asking any questions. A Nicholas she Stople Fulda Germany
