Consider also that at the time the second amendment was put into effect most of the United states was still a Frontier. The gun was a tool necessary for survival. It was used for Hunting food As Well As for Protection from wildlife and other dangers. Maybe its time for a drastic change dare i say repealing that amendment appropriate Long ago but now slightly outdated in our relatively civilized society. People will always kill each other. This would just make it a Little harder for them. If you done to like what i say Here bring your six shooter at High noon. Maybe we can get together after we re done have some Beers and watch a John Wayne flick. Nothing like a shootout at the Ponderosa to make me feel like a real Man. A spec. Humberto i. Gonzalez Birndorf Germany Apo firms and excuses i would like to comment on the new Apo system. Many stateside companies refuse to take the new address. They either can to handle four lines or they can to handle a or whatever the corresponding designation is for the other areas. The excuse they give is that they can to modify their computers programming. I say that these companies Are feeding us a line. I am a professional computer Programmer and i can program in All but one of the major programming languages. I Don t care what they program their machines in it is relatively easy to substitute a for by and to accept four lines. I told All the companies i Deal with that either they accepted the new address or i would Stop dealing with them. Those that i owe Money to took notice rather quickly. Those that i buy products from done to want to lose a customer so they also took notice. Use the Power of the purse. It really works. A spec. . Walker Wurzburg Germany a a a a matter of respect i am a North american Indian. In a recent letter a writer dismisses the indians indignation Over having themselves used As team mascots. Also Carl Rowan attempts to trivialize it in a column by calling the subject a a useless Donnybrook about the monikers of sports i agree that you May not find one american of Irish descent who resents the notre Dame football teams calling itself a the fighting i also believe that if society has accepted certain things for so Long As Normal then its victims Are probably going to be lulled into believing it is of too. This makes me think Back to How i Felt As a kid whenever i heard a cowboys and i Felt Hurt and not respected. Invariably the indians were always the bad Guys who ran around trying to get your Scalp and making crazy sounds. This brings us Back to what i believe it All boils Down to respect or the Lack thereof. Respect comes in Many forms. There a self respect earned respect and the respect shown to other Peoples thoughts and feelings just because they Are human beings. I done to know about other Peoples experiences but whenever i try to respect other people at work or at Home things Are always a lot More harmonious. The world is getting to be a smaller place to live in nowadays. I think what you Are seeing is that certain groups Are beginning to not accept the a a Norm anymore and Are speaking out. This frightens some people whose world is changing and who now must rethink some of what they took for granted. Now this might require a Little thought before we name our sports teams but i think we Are capable of it. We just need to make the Effort. Someone once said that if you take care of the Small things then the big things Are no problem. A staff sgt. A. Republicans and democrats the same groups that brought you scandal after scandal outrageous congressional pay raises the Keating five and bounced checks Are now going to give Jordan a $22 billion Aid package for participating in the Middle East peace conference. We also gave Israel $3 billion in Aid which brings the grand total to $50 billion since Israel has existed. As far As in a concerned its time we take care of our own. We have no National health care plan there Are Only two countries that done to the other is South Africa thousands of homeless High unemployment and drug infested slums. Its a Good thing in a not their squad Leader because i would never finish the counselling statements. A staff sgt. Robert l. Watson bad Kreuz Nach Germany a a a Call us family members the other Day i made an appointment at my local military health care facility. When asked if i was a dependent i lied and stated that i was. A i have been a military family member for More than 10 years not a dependent. My ability to Compromise on the letters to the editor terminology surprised me. I have always been an advocate of the non judgmental term a family member since the term dependent seems descriptive of a bygone Day. The term dependent conjures up images of the a Little woman waiting at Home with two three children and unable to desire any other life. Today so a dependent is More Likely to be a self supporting self supportive woman or Man who is married to a person in the military. The military family member is the person who is concerned for your financial needs at the local Bank helps you heal at the local Hospital cares for your children or performs a multitude of other essential professions within the Community. Without these a a dependents the military would find it difficult to function. A a Independent would be a More appropriate term for the men and women who Are married to service members. During times of deployment it is each other we turn to for support Back Home. We manage the Home work and our lives with a minimum of interruption. We take care of family crises broken pipes in the basement Auto breakdowns and children a birthdays without Mommy or daddy. We Are entrusted with Powers of attorney which allow us to make financial and essential decisions. Too often we Are left at the last duty station to pack up and move by ourselves while the Active duty member starts his or her new Job. I have enjoyed the last 10 years of travelling with my Active duty husband and working As a registered nurse in military hospitals. It has had its difficult times As Well As Good but i feel that i have acted More As a partner of the military than a dependent of it. I have met Many hard working motivated partners of Active duty members who deserve better than the derogatory term allow us the respect that we have worked for and recognize us As partners with the term a family a Deborah b. Seastrom Heidelberg Germany a religion and rights this is in response to the letter a a burning i would like to refer to the part which states Quot your pushing of religion on Why is it that every time someone brings up religion or godly principles it is declared As evading someone a rights i consider a style of life to be a religion since it reflects what you believe in. As far As i am concerned your Quot religion Quot is continually being pushed on me and my family by soldiers who feel drinking is the Only Way to live. You Are fighting for your privileges to drink and have a High time. Well just As you Are Able to have your privileges we would like to have ours.
