We parked on the left Side of a one Way Street. One of the Young passengers opened the front door without looking. An oncoming car hit the door which was half open. The boy s leg was caught in the door and got bruised so badly that for a few minutes we thought it might be broken. My wife who is a nurse concluded that the leg was not broken and though offered the option of going Home the child chose to go to the game. He spent the night at our House. The next morning he was walking normally so no medical Bills resulted from this Accident. Our insurance company paid $1,300 in claims for damage to both vehicles. Because of this Accident we will have to pay out of pocket a $250 deductible and a surcharge of $1,200 in added premiums Over the next three years. As the Driver 1 feel some responsibility for not issuing a warning to our Young passengers but i also believe it is not unreasonable to expect a 10-year-old to exercise some caution on his own. After discussing this incident with several friends All agreed that the parents of that child should share in at least some of the Cost. Most Felt that a 50-50 split would be fairest.
