Advertising Tel fax 06155 601412too much to stomach in my 18 years of military service As a 94 Bravo the letter a same old fare a is just another blow below the Belt to the food service Field. Sometimes we forget the credit and philosophy behind the food service Field. Lets not forget that the american army travels on its stomach. There Are other programs and competitions in the army . Cav cup sporting programs sgt. Morales club Etc which give out trophies awards and in some instances toys temporary duty. Does anyone question or say anything about those programs the Cooks go to War with Beans and bullets As i did and return to the same sop continuing to perform food service duties and recover their Field equipment after 8 to 10 hours shift in the dining facility. Some soldiers forget that the Cooks go to Grafe Wohr or to saudi Arabia and have been omitted from award recognition when they Are Iven out. What a shame we can to get Etter support than that. A sgt. 1st class Jesus Torres Babenhausen Germany thanks Heyford Post office id like to commend our Post office at Raf upper Heyford England. They work 24 hours a Day putting up mail and packages. In addition with the Christmas Rush if you have More than four boxes to mail you Are Able to make an appointment and have them processed for mailing prior to the window opening at 10 . This not Only better serves the patrons with multiple packages but also those who happen to be in line behind those with Many packages to mail. Because shift workers Are often ignored the upper Heyford Post office has gone the extra mile to recognize their needs As Well. They have initiated pick up for package hours from 11 . To Midnight. For a Friendly hard working group i commend you for the service you provide. A Denise k. Schau Raf upper Heyford England Pride in food service the letter a same old fare is unwarranted. I have been in the army Over i71/ years All of which has been in food service. I have worked in just about every kind of Kitchen and environment the army has to offer. So i think i can speak with More than just a Little authority when it comes to justifying the culinary Competition. The writer questioned the time Effort and Money that is put into this Competition and wondered How it was going to improve the Quality of food served to the soldiers at the dining facility. A Tihe objectives of the culinary Art Competition Are to improve the Overall Quality of army food service and training the Soldier and provide recognition Lor excellence in culinary skills. Those who do compete receive recognition by the awarding of certificates medallions engraved plaques or a Soldier chosen to compete in this Competition not Only represents his or her unit and dining facility hut also the . Army. These soldiers have not Only the desire to Excel in this Competition but also the professionalism to put Forth their Hest efforts on every meal they assist in preparing at their unit dining facility. Be it in Garrison or the Field. I he soldiers who compete in the contest Don t keep the knowledge they gain to themselves. They return to their unit and share what they learn. Granted sometimes some of the knowledge gained is not practical for everyday use but the vast majority can be. A the army food service program has come a Long Way from the stereotyping portrayed in the Beetle Bailey comic strip. It seems to me that this writer has never eaten in a dining facility that employs a participant of the culinary arts Competition. 1 have and the Pride of the staff working there had a direct bearing on the Quality of food being served. If there Are problems at the dining facility supporting the writers unit i suggest that he get involved with his Chain of command and the manager of the facility to resolve them and not to lash out at a Competition that has brought Pride recognition and better trained soldiers to the food service career Field. I have also fallen victim to the poor workmanship of the american Auto Industry. In april 1991, i bought a Plymouth Sundance. It too has spent More time in the shop than on the Road it seems. It has been to two different shops eight times for a number of problems. Some have yet to be fixed. I spoke with the european warranty manager for Chrysler Plymouth and was told that the Lemon Law does t apply in Europe so they could not refund my Money. Since there Isnit a Lemon Law in Europe does that mean we get All the a a Lemons previously i owned a 1989 Nissan. It Only gave me one problem. When 1 contacted the dealer they treated me As if i was their Only customer. They even called two weeks later to make sure everything was of. The american Auto Industry is suffering Layoff after Layoff. In Japan skilled workers Are hard to find. They can to seem to hire enough. Here at Home they prod us Day in and Day out to buy american. Why do they have to make it so difficult a spec. Michael s. Carpenter bad Kissinger Germany Hooks on Blacks plentiful last week you ran a letter from a Mannheim elementary school student Kaleef Reed. We were delighted to hear that Kaleef is interested in Black history but surprised at the Content of his letter. Khaleen stated 111c school Library has about 14 books on Black yesterday Khaleen came Down and we spent Over an hour on a preliminary count. We counted ids biographies on famous Black people. We found 23 audiovisual kits and study print collections for teacher use in presenting Black history. We did t have time to count the Hundred plus fiction books featuring Black children and families the african Folk tales anthologies of Black poetry Etc. Kaleef also stated that a we should put on plays for Black history Dodds agrees with him and annual assemblies Are a yearly event As part of a monthlong Celebration of Black history every february. Teachers do extensive activities in january involving Martin Luther King or. However a year can be a Long time for a child we have been Busy celebrating Spanish american and native american heritage months. Kaleef was on the right track in looking to libraries As an ongoing source of materials on ethnic identity we take great Pride in our collection and materials which Are always available. Our Library Media Center honors Black history every month of the year. A Rebecca Knuth Media specialist Mannheim elementary school a numbers can deceive in response to the letter a disgrace not heroes a you can to really say a they have morals of an Alley cat because of the number of sexual encounters they have had Over a certain period of time. The number Given by those athletes could Vety Well be estimated although not mentioned but it is possible. Have you Ever wondered Why they even gave a number maybe because some Nosy news reporter wanted to know their personal life and figured a a county would boost sales. You be seen How the smallest and harmless of statements can be blown out of context in the tabloids.
