Being in the military is a Tough Job for All of the service members and their families not just the Cooks. In Man army wife and was in the military myself so i know How rough it is. My husband works 12-hour shifts Days and nights in a telecommunications Center. This year he works both Christmas eve and new years eve. He also worked thanksgiving. In a just glad that he has Christmas Day off a he gets off at 7 . Christmas morning. He a also got 60 Days of leave accrued. Because of the shortage of personnel the last time he put in for 21 Days of leave it was Cut to 10 and he did no to even get the time period he requested. I also have a Friend in a Patriot missile unit who works 48 to 72 hours straight. His wife Isnit Happy about this but she understands and supports him. In a not Here to put Down the Cooks. I just want a a Cooke a wife to understand that the Cooks Arentt the Only ones who work on holidays and who work Lousy hours. I done to like my husbands work schedule but i support him and what he a doing. I Hope a a Cooke a wife will understand that the military is a Tough life for everyone not Only the Cooks. We should just support our soldiers and do what we can to make their lives easier. A Ann Saunders Ansbach Germany Faux Pas in football i am writing in response to a factual Ina Curacy that appeared in a letter to the editor. The writer was touting notre Dame football and made the statement that notre Dame had won More National championships in football eight than any other school. This is not True As those of us who follow the University of Alabama Crimson tide know. Alabama has won 11 National titles in football 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978 and 1979. I am not sure if there is a school that has won More but i do know that 11 is More than eight. As for the assertion that notre Dame is College football to the exclusion of All others i Point out that in the past 70 years a 1922-1991, the widely acknowledged a a modern Era of College football a notre Dames record is 523-171-23 for a winning percentage of .745. Alabama a record during that same Span is 548-170-30 for a winning percentage of .752. A John r. Stewartjr. All of us who live in housing need to get along to a certain extent in order to maintain peace. If any of you have a complaint about what a certain person does or does not do the first person to go to is that individual and Tell them what you do not like. Remember the Chain for complaints is the individual the stairwell coordinator the building coordinator the area coordinator. If you keep to this order All problems no matter what can be solved. The first person not to go to is the area coordinator and then Down the Chain. By doing this you end up with a lot of resentment and sometimes the problem is not solved. My reason for writing is that someone had a complaint about me and did not bring it to my attention but took the matter up with the area coordinator. By doing this the problem was blown out of proportion tempers flared and words were said that should not have been said. We in the military Are fortunate to have a secure income. We Are fortunate but not immune As we watch the military launch an aggressive program to encourage people to leave the armed forces. It is encouraging however to hear the military talk about the Force Structure it envisions for the future. We read of a composite wings and combinations of commands that appear to be based on Well thought out concepts. The military is projecting a future that is entered on a Long term plan and not simply a Quick fix. Nobody Back Home or abroad enjoys Reading about Job cuts and layoffs. Ism recently Laid out plans to Cut 20,000 people from the company a work Force. Allied signal and Mcdonnell Douglas have announced similar plans. But to hear ism chairman John Akers talk these Job cuts Are not a Quick solution to the current recession. He outlines the re structuring of a company that will be Able to compete at the turn of the Century. Once again we have an example of a Long term plan. Why is it that our own government is so slow to look to the future by exploring the option of a tax Cut to encourage consumer spending. President Bush and his administration Are offering the american people a bread and circuses a government policies that seek Short letters to the editor term solutions to Public unrest. Their reasoning is Clear. Pull the country out of recession with any Quick solution and there will be a Happy electorate in 1992 a regardless of the Long term effects. Our country needs a government that plans further into the future than the next election. We need a team strategy for the Long term a one that will fit any team Republican or Democrat. The administration that is willing to put election based policies aside and plan for our country s future might not be popular when re election time approaches.
