I think it is an uncomfortable topic for Many people but one that should be addressed. I attend a Small High school which has Little conflict regarding this Issue. However i still experience the tension of it every once in a while. This is not what bothers me so much though because it involves Only a Small portion of people Here. What really upsets me is How much attention is needlessly focused on racism. In almost every newspaper i read or broadcast i hear there is some Story which puts the spotlight on the Issue. In a sure these reports Are written out of True concern but How can the non existent differences Between people and the Issue of racism die when we Are constantly bringing these thoughts to the foreground perhaps if we leave such differences alone instead of emphasizing them we will All be better off. A William Tull Raf High Wycombe England education is the key i want to commend the writer of a educate his final statement a find out about yourself yourself a is the key to the advancement of our human society. Education is the key to overcoming problems including ignorant and stubborn prejudices. While most of us Are not scholars we do have Access to libraries and other information sources. One cannot accept All printed word As fact however the truth usually comes out if All sources Are carefully studied and considered. In the past a Black history has been seriously neglected in the american education system. Other facets of history have also been left out or distorted. It is useless to try to place blame. We need to Correct the crime rather than waste time on finding the cause or criminal. Until the time when this problem is corrected americans really do need to a find out about themselves for themselves. American parents need to influence educational growth in their children to the Best of their ability. While Many unforgivable atrocities were committed by Western ancestors any Given person must not be ashamed of his or her race religion sex or culture. Instead one should focus on the present by learning from the past. Turn off the television. Pick up a Book and educate yourself a . Harris Sembach a Germany 1oor Yanina what a sad article that was about Yarima the Yano mama Indian who married the anthropologist Ken Good. In a sure she loves this loud colourful world we live in but to allow her to live in it without telling her that a lot of what we do is no Good is a crime. If her children had been raised in the Jungle they would have been breast fed. Everyone in the Western world knows that breast feeding is Best for babies. In a sure no one told Yarima this. In the Jungle she consumed fresh fruits and vegetables and had a Low fat Complete diet. Now she eats fast food. In a sure no one has told her that our Western diet is conducive to clogged arteries breast cancer and All the other maladies that Are foreign to her people. We think that our fast noisy world is better than any other culture but we re wrong. The Yano mama Haven t depleted the Ozone layer spilled Oil in the Ocean or created so much garbage there is nowhere to put it. They should be told that they have a wonderful life and that they should just stay put in the Jungle. They Are very Happy and we should leave them alone. The article said it All a when there is so much to do and no people to talk to All we feel is boredom. What a sad place to live. Poor Yarima. A Lenore e. I would like to Point out to is. Geewax that in Germany All businesses were closed at Christmas for 2l/2 Days i Days for new years two Days or More for easter plus a few other occasions that i cannot think of right now. People Here do not even have to use annual leave As this is part on such occasions of the Legal work schedule As Well As a 37/38-hour work week and six weeks yearly vacation As opposed to three weeks in the United states and this Only after several years in the same Job. It is just about the same All Over Europe although Germany is probably a bit More generous. Even Switzerland which a a stuck to the three week yearly vacation until recently now gives four weeks i believe. As i hear it even the japanese arc beginning to think that they work too much. I do not believe that a phantom holidays Quot in the United states Are to blame for americans economic woes. The germans Are doing Well economically with time to enjoy the fruit of their labor. . Abslon Owci Brincken Germany according to an article in the july 1991 edition of the noncommissioned officers association journal 1992 will be the first fiscal year in history that the United states will spend More just on interest on the National debt than it will on defense. I done to know about anyone else but that really gets my Goat. In be written to All my elected officials in Washington including president Bush and expressed my views on this subject. I urge anyone else upset by this outrage to do the same. A staff sgt. Michael d. Busby Wiesbaden Germany a anti gun non fanatic it seems to me that the vocal majority of your readers feels strongly about the right to Bear arms. 1 have Strong feelings about the same Issue but in the opposite direction. I would like to Point out a few things to your readers to perhaps let them understand that a few of the anti gun Side Are not fanatics. Let me begin by stating that i am not a member of Peta people for the ethical treatment of animals or any other wildlife group. I like animals but in a no fanatic. However to All you Hunters who just go to commune with nature a in a not buying it. Take a hike take a camera and picnic lunch a nobody has to get shot. If you re worried about starving animals and culling herds take some food with you and feed the animals or let Mother nature take its course. Fishermen practice catch and release. Maybe you ought to try it too with a camera. Target shooting is a sport. However most avid shooters will Tell you that most pistols Are highly inaccurate. Do we need hand guns Only if you want to kill someone. A pistol is meant to kill and nothing else. Home Protection and the welfare of our loved ones is a concern we All share but if you look at statistics on How Many crimes Are stopped by gun wielding citizens you la realize having a handgun in the Home Isnit going to help. It might help your child kill himself or a Friend though. Of the one about burglars not wanting to go in if they know a gun is around most burgers Don t know a whole lot about their victims unless they re after something specific a like a gun. A sgt. Daniel Williams Raf bin Walers England Holiday postal delay this is a very special thanks to All those people working in the postal service no ensured the Christmas gifts mailed to us from my wife a sister made it to us in such a timely manner.
