First i recently watched a segment on primetime live on a Vietnam Veteran decorated with two Silver stars for bravery who also served in operation desert storm through the reserves living on the streets of Boston a homeless. Yesterdays proud soldiers Are reduced to sleeping in cardboard boxes or on top of heating grates to keep warm. Famines All Over the United states Are living in their cars or roaming from shelter to shelter to stay alive. So when i read in the paper that president Bush has asked Congress to allot $600 million for the Commonwealth of Independent states i just had to write. President Bush says this is a Golden Opportunity to1 help our former adversaries to become our future allies. We already have allies a americans starving and freezing right in our own country. The Story on homeless veterans appalled me. One third of americans homeless Are veterans. That is 200,000 homeless veterans. Nineteen homeless veterans died this year already. Four of them froze to death. The department of veterans affairs has failed them miserably. Some veterans of operation desert storm now find themselves among the homeless less than one year after they returned to a heroes Welcome. This is an outrage. Something must be done to solve this problem. If we wait for the a and the government it will be too late for Many others. Every month 50 cents is deducted from my paycheck for the old soldiers Home. I understand the proceeds from article 15 fines go to the old soldiers Home also. I would not object to a similar deduction to help provide care for homeless vets especially if the moneyed Cross tribute the red Cross of the crusaders represented men fighting for a purpose the holy crusade. The red Cross today symbolizes something different but also the same. It stands for a special group of people working for their beliefs of helping others. Today a crusader or red Cross worker is a unique individual who believes in life and the comforting of others during their pain sorrow and crisis. They Are the silent heroes who receive no medals parades or sometimes even a thank you but still they March on with self gratitude.
