Navratilova narrowly beat Jana Novotna 7-6 7-44-6, 7-5 in the finals of the Virginia slims of Chicago Tennis tournament. A i was preparing my losers speech during the match a Navratilova said. It was the 63rd time the czech native had won both the singles and doubles title in the same tourney. The winners split $21,000. Janzen picks up first pea tour Victory by Bob Green Tucson Ariz. Apr Lee Janzen sneaked a Peak at the Leader Board sunday when he stood on the 16th Green at the Tucson National Golf club. The Victory was Worth $198,000 from the total purse of $1.1 million and increased his earnings for the season to $235,578, More than he won in either of his first two full years. Colbert defeats Archer in playoff at Tampa Tampa Fla. Apr Jim Colbert Sank a 3-foot Birdie putt on the fourth playoff Hole to defeat George Archer and win the $450,000 Sun coast classic on sunday. Colbert who started the Day two strokes behind Archer and three behind Kermit Zarley shot a 7-under-Par 64 sunday. Colbert and Archer both shot 13-under-Par 200s for 54 holes shattering the tournament record by seven shots. The Victory was Colbert a fourth in 11 months on the senior pea tour and earned him $67,500. Archer shot a final round 66 to earn $39,000. Colbert who finished with 66-70-64, and Archer who had 66-68-66, each parred the first three playoff holes before Colbert won on the 197-Yard Par 3 17th Hole at the tournament players club of Tampa Bay. Nichols fell out of Contention at 18 after his approach shot landed in a greenside Bunker and he missed a 10-foot Par putt that would have put him in the playoff. Nichols 201 was Good for third place and $32,500. Zarley was fourth at 203 and earned $27,000. Defending Champion Bob Charles finished tied for fifth with Gary player Lee Trevino and 1990 Champion Mike Hill
