One Accident listed in the report was a 1958 explosion of eight Nike missiles at a site in Monmouth coun n.j., that killed 10 people. But officials of both the a and the army said thursday that there was no new evidence to indicate that nuclear weapons were involved in that blast. Epa officials said thursday that the incident was included in the study on the basis of decades old Magazine articles that suggested nuclear weapons were involved. Some experts on nuclear weapons issues outside the government also questioned several of the incidents cited in the report. For instance the report said the explosion of a b-52 bomber Over Monticello Utah in 1961 involved atomic warheads. But Stan Norris a researcher for the National resources defense Council said he doubted that finding. Norris said he noted seven other incidents cited by the report that either had not been generally known previously or had not been reported As involving nuclear weapons.
