Soccer Tennis and softball tournaments and in nation conference and regional qualifying track and Field championships Dot the schedule thursday through saturday in the biggest week of Spring sports Competition. The Only non tournament action this week is in Germany Bennor gymnastics which winds up regu Lar season Competition. In Germany the big thing this week is the big schools three Day soccer Competition with aaa Champion Kaiserslautern playing Host to the boys elimination and Giessen staging the girls tournament. Giessen Patch and Pitburg tied for the a title but Giessen earned the right to stage the championship because of better tie breaking numbers a the Griffins gave up fewer goals than the panthers and Barons. The big schools soccer tournaments originally were scheduled for next week but the last week of regular season Competition was advanced to the beginning of the season so that the finals could be staged in this weeks time Frame. In previous years conference tournaments were staged in aaa and a and some coaches contended that More emphasis had been placed on conference Competition than on Central european status. Last year however the final week of the regular season was cancelled and the tournament advanced a week. The Heidelberg girls Are gunning for their third straight big schools championship a and their fifth in six outings a after winning their sixth straight aaa conference title. Four members of the aaa and big schools championship basketball teams a Carolyn Kirsch Veruska Corigliano Donna Jordan and Amy Klumb a have been playing key roles in Heidelberg a soccer Success too. Other outstanding performers in the lady Lions Success include Kristin Lobdell Renee Bustos Erin Robbins and Kelly Gully. Kirsch had three goals and Lobdell came through with two assists As the lady Lions capped a perfect regular season Campaign with a 3-0 Victory Over Frankfurt last week. Klumb had Only five saves As the Strong Heidelberg defense kept Frankfurt off balance most of the time. However the Heidelberg boys who toppled Pitburg in a shootout to win the big schools championship in 1991 and give the lady Lions and Lions a sweep like they also achieved in basketball this year lost their last regular season game to Frankfurt and fell into fifth place in the final standings.
