     European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - November 12, 1992, Darmstadt, Hesse                                A a a a la Francais Strasbourg Flea Market offers something for everyone by Steve scholar staff writer any Flea marketeer Worth his or her Salt and looking for the bargain of a lifetime would t hesitate to travel several hours to find an outstanding Flea Market. One such Flea Market can be found every wednesday and saturday in Strasbourg France. Strasbourg a located about 21/z hours South of the Kaiserslautern Germany area a is a Beautiful City with Many enjoyable sights other than the Flea Market. But if you re looking for a potential bargain the Flea Market should be your first Stop. The Flea Market is located on Rue de veil Hospital about two blocks from Cath Drale notre Dame. Dealers begin displaying their wares just after Dawn although More dealers keep arriving until about 9 . Dealers begin to pack up about 4 . Saturday is the Day to go to the Flea Market in Strasbourg. The Flea Market on wednesday is Good but nearly twice As Many dealers will be there on saturday. Dozens of dealer tables line both sides of the Sheet a a will probably be surprised by the diversity of the an it . Offered. Everything from furniture to ceramics to antique cameras can be had. One dealer sold antique dolls. Another had a table filled with victorian Silver plate and dishes. Another sold ornate edwardian furniture and parian Ware. There seemed to be something for everyone. And a True Antiques or collectibles bargain Hunter will be glad to know they won t have to ferret through stacks of children s clothing and antique reproductions to find a bargain. Only Antiques and collectibles Are sold. Generally the Flea Market prices seem to be reasonable. Antiques and collectibles Cost less in France than Germany although you should bring plenty of French francs if you Are in a serious buying mood. Unfortunately the dealers did t seem very interested in bargaining on their prices. It was pretty much pay what the dealer asked. There were several Sandwich shops in the area if a bout of Flea marketing makes you hungry. Another Surprise is that the crowds Aren t bad if you get there Early in the morning. The later you arrive the More people you will have to shunt aside to get to the treasure table. Another plus to arriving Early is that parking is somewhat limited in the downtown area and you will stand a better Chance of finding a place to Park your car. Other than the Flea Market the Cathedral area has Many Antiques shops that might warrant your attention. The prices Are considerably higher but so is the Quality. It s easy to spend an entire Day visiting the Flea Market and local Antiques shops. However with everything else there is to do in Strasbourg visiting the Flea Market or antique shops could be the beginning of a family Day of sightseeing in one of Europe s oldest cities. Customers will be surprised by the diversity of goods offered at the Strasbourg Flea Market. Three men above discuss business.
