A a we be been trying since two years ago to be number one and now we Are a the Heidelberg senior told the audience after the Competition. About 125 ninth through 12th-graders from 25 department of defense dependents schools competed. Excluding osterholz every High school in the Germany Region including the new bad sibling High school in Southern Germany participated this year said organizer Kathlyn Hofmann a German teacher at Ramstein. Wei Brincken is the Only school to win the Competition More than once taking honors in the first bowl in 1982-83, and for three consecutive years beginning with the 1987-88 school year. The two Day event held this year at Ramstein High school originated at bad Kreuz Nach High school. Sandy Riggins who now teaches English at Berlin High school founded the event with the belief that Scholastic Competition should rank alongside school sports Competition. In the contest four member teams Are made up of a student from each Grade. Each team has an alternate but there must be one student from each Grade in the first round of play. V Heidelberg sponsor Anne Bednarz has coached the schools team for three years. This time was a Breeze she said. A i did nothing this year a she said. A they All Are such Busy Young people that they did no to have time to practice. But they Are All very aggressive Bright Young people and did it on their own. A we tried to choose a team that has Strong people in various areas some of which overlapped Here a Bednarz said. A i think the secret to having a Good team is to have All your different disciplines covered and they have to be verbal kids a she said. By Rosemary Sawyer Brussels Bureau Brun sum Netherlands a children a Book author Paul Fleischman likes his Job too much to keep it a secret. So he a visiting 10 schools in Belgium and the Netherlands this month to talk to pupils about the work that has brought him not Only Joy but numerous awards including the Newbey medal for the Best children s Book published in 1988. A Reading a Book is fun a Fleischman told second graders earlier this month at accent International school a but writing a Book is much More  the author of More lid than 20 books including Graven images the Boming room and medal Winner Joyful noise poems for two voices said he Hopes to instill in Young people the belief that they too can grow up to be writers. Fleischman was to speak to shape elementary and High schools today in Casteau Belgium winding up his series of presentations sponsored by the department of defense dependents schools Benelux District. In his talks Fleischman attempts to dispel the myth that Only people who Lead adventurous exotic lives can be writers.
