We did t have a lot of examples on How to work these problems out Bussey said. Soever the past 18 years we be been working a lot of these problems  the women had to sign statements say ing that their pregnancy or subsequent children would not interfere with their military Job. It made it Good for child care because at first we did t need a baby Sitter or search for child care. But it was t Good for our relationship because we hardly Ever saw each  Bussey and Serna got support from their families. Bussey s Mother live nearby and often tended to the child. However there were other times when baby Sitters would quit and the couple had to scramble to find a replacement. Serna s sister came and lived with Herfor a while when she was stationed at or Lando Fla. A lot of people were very hesitant to baby sit any longer than necessary Serna said. So i had one of my Sisters stay with me and i helped her go through College at the same  the women s children May not remember much about that time but As they got older they tried to adapt to military life not always successfully. I did t adapt when my Mother had to leave at times said Michele Bussey 18, a High school senior. And to this Day still Haven t  but she s enjoyed her life growing up in the military. It s been a plus Michele said. If you look at kids who have Only spent their life in one town they Are not used to being around a lot of different  feel i can Deal with people  Token Barnthouse 18, echoed those sentiments. I be had Many opportunities that i would never have had if i was Back in a Small town in the Middle of the  and while Michele has no plans to continue her ties with the military once her Mother retires. They women won t have to go through what we  Serna said the Battle for women s rights in the military today has moved into a new Arena with changes to women s role in combat i knew it was Corning Serna said. It was just like allowing women on ships. When i first entered women weren t Al Lowed on  Barnthouse believes women will takeover in combat roles but she thinks not everyone is qualified. Not every woman is qualified for every Type of combat role she said. Buti Don t think every woman is qualified for the military. You be got to want to do this Type of  she added that the same applies to men. It has to be something you want to do. But women should t be barred. Active duty women Are just As committed to their careers in the Navy As anybody else even if you have a family Bussey noted.
