At their annual gathering the groups also will discuss ways to strengthen an International nuclear nonproliferation treaty. North Korea has recently threatened to withdraw from the treaty raising new fears about the danger of nuclear weapons. The two associations Are Japan a largest pacifist and anti nuclear civic groups. They Are the Japan Congress against atomic and Hydrogen bombs and the Japan Council against atomic and Hydrogen bombs. They gathered for their 1993 world conference in Hiroshima 400 Miles Southwest of Tokyo to observe the memory of the City a destruction on aug. 6, 1945, and the bombing of Nagasaki on the southernmost Island of Kyushu three Days later. The bombings killed 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 70,000 in Nagasaki. The groups Are gathering As activists prepare to unveil an atomic bomb memorial Friday that is fashioned from part of a Hospital Wall in Hiroshima that survived the blast. The Wall is dedicated to Hospital workers who died during the this years gatherings the Congress is reiterating traditional themes such As urging a ban on nuclear weapons. Backed by the social democratic party the Congress also will hold a special forum on compensation for former forced labourers from other asian nations who survived the bombings. The Council affiliated with the Japan communist party will focus its meetings on ending the policy of nuclear deterrence by building global Solidarity among pacifist movements. The groups anticipate 5,000 participants in Hiroshima and 10,000 in Nagasaki where they will meet saturday through monday organizers said. In Hiroshima the memorial is being built from a Corner of two Walls that once belonged to the Hiroshima red Cross Hospital. The Hospital had stood one mile from ground Zero directly beneath the Point where the bomb detonated. Afterwards Only the Corner Walls on the Northwest Side of the main building were left standing. When the Hiroshima red Cross a bomb Hospital was built on the site after the War the surviving Walls were kept. After the second Hospital was condemned local residents proposed that the original Walls be preserved to commemorate the victims of the bombing including those who suffered radiation sickness and were treated at the second facility. The Walls each 16 feet wide and 3 feet High have been mounted near a memorial to the Hospital workers killed by the atomic bomb.
