A the final seconds of the army Navy a game were like a blur for Ryan freshman Navy placekicker did t remember the snap Ana he did t remember the hold. Unfortunately the kick is probably going to stay with the 18-year old for a lifetime. Bucchianeri missed an 18-Yard Field goal attempt with two seconds to play saturday allowing army to escape with a 16-14 Victory in the annual game Between the service academies. Quot i did the Best 1 could that s How 1 feel a a visibly upset Bucchianeri said. A a i need to put it out of my mind but 1 will go to sleep tonight knowing 1 did my Best said Bucchianeri who did no to become the middies kicker until mid season because he lost too much weight in sum Mer training. Bucchianeri also missed a Chance to put Navy 4-7 ahead in the series. Instead army 6-5 took an Overall 44-43-7 Lead. For a while it appeared Navy was ready to match army s great comeback win of a year ago. The middies scored two touchdowns in two minutes Early in the fourth Quarter to get within two Points and then got the Ball Back with 4 30 to play and drove 79 Yards to the army 1 Tor Bucchianeri s Chip shot. On the play before the kick Navy fullback Brad Stramanak was tackled As he went left to try for either the touchdown. Or to Center the Ball. That left the Ball on the right pro hash Mark putting Bucchianeri at an Angle. After Navy and army called timeouts Bucchianeri and Navy lined up. The snap was Good. The hold was Good. The kick from a bad Angle was wide right sending the corps of cadets and army into a Celebration. 1 Bucchianeri did t seem to move after the kick. As he walked off the Field he Navy s Ryan Bucchianeri who later missed Winner reaches for Ball alter bad snap on Fig attempt. Army s Bob acc Kathoma 87 recovers. Was met by army kicker Rocco Wicks who earlier missed an extra Point. Quot my heart goes out to him a Wicks said. ?o1 went up to him after the game and told him to hold his head High and not let it bother him. Who knows in a couple of years he might make the kick and win it for them. 1 Hope he Sticks with the miss deprived the middies of revenge for last years game when they blew a 17-Point Leaa and lost 25-24 on a 49-Yard Field goal by Patmon Malcom with 12 seconds to play. An unsportsmanlike penalty after Bucchianeri a miss Cost army 10 Yards and Navy tried to take advantage by lining up for another Field goal. But it was army $ Ball and army a game it was a game Navy gift wrapped too. Besides the last second miss the middies turned the Ball Over three times inside the army 30 in the first half and lost it once on Downs at the cadets 32 in the second. Army quarterback Rick Roper said he spent most of the final minute watching the scoreboard showing highlights of Malcom s game Winner last year. A i thought no Way he was going to miss a Roper said. Quot i m glad though. That must be though to army took a 9-0 halftime Lead on a 2-Yard to run by John Lane and a 20-Yard Field goal by Rocco Wicks. Roper extended the Lead to 16-0 late in the third Tju Arter with a 9-Yard to run. The middies were seemingly out of the game at that Point but they came Back. Quarterback Jim Kubiak began connecting on the middies next series hitting Damon Dixon on passes of 36, 19 and 16 Yards the last giving Navy a first and goal at the army 2. Three runs lost a Yard before Kubiak scored on a Roll out then hit Dixon with a 2-Point conversion cutting the Lead to 16-8. Dondra Jolly fumbled the ensuing Kickoff and Kubiak got Navy to 16-14 on an 8-Yard scoring pass to tight end Jim Mill. The middies went for 2 Points again and appeared to have it made on a reverse to wide receiver Michael Jefferson but he dropped the Handoff. The middies final drive started at their 20, Billy James led the Way by carrying six times for 60 Yards. When Navy lined up for the potential game winning kick it seemed like four years ago when the game was last at giants stadium. That ended with Frank Schenk kicking a 32-yarder for the win with the late Alton Grizzard holding. This one however was wide right and it sent the middies to their fifth straight loss. A you win As a team and lose As a team a Navy coach George Chaump said a no one individual should have to take responsibility. We had our opportunities/1q 2b6s5q
