The work of 7th through 12th-Grade pupils in department of defense dependents schools Germany Region will be judged feb. 4 at the Patrick Henry Village officers club. Awards will be presented at 4 . Judges will choose honorable mentions Silver key winners and up to 10 Gold key winners. Three of the Gold key winners will be nominated for a $100 Cash award sponsored by hallmark As the Best work from the Region. In addition artworks receiving a Gold key will be sent to new York for National Competition. Each school could have up to 10 artworks on exhibition. High school seniors also May enter portfolios of up to eight artworks which could be eligible for scholarships of up to $5,000.entries winning either Gold or Silver keys will be on display at the club through 3 . On feb. 6. Open House scheduled Stuttgart Germany the 6th area support group education Center in Stuttgart will conduct a graduate program open House at the Panzer Community club on feb. 2 from 12 30 . To 6 30 . Representatives from each of the four american colleges offering graduate level programs will be available. The four Are Embry Riddle aeronautical University which offers aeronautical programs. The University of Maryland which offers graduate degrees in business and management management information systems counselling and Public administration. The University of Oklahoma which offers degrees in human relations and education. And Troy state University which offers degree in International relations. Comes Riedelbauch by Ron Jensen Nurnberg Bureau Furth Germany since August a class of Amer ican fifth graders at Johann Kalb elementary school in Firth has been immersed in the German language while studying science health and social studies. On a recent Day they dipped a toe into the German culture also with a three hour tour of Firth. Led by Marina Silic the Host nation culture teacher 19 pupils Learned a bit about the history and architecture of Firth ending with a visit to the apart ment of a Firth artist in a 100-year-old building. Silic approached the tour with enthusiasm showering the children with compliments and information with an easy style developed during 27 years in the Job. When they come they have different opinions about Germany some of them negative she said i explaining her task. She wants the pupils to learn to appreciate the differences in various cultures and especially to Lear that there is More to know about Germany than Adolf Hitler and the third Reich. At the City Hall she explained that the building was built 150 years ago in a style reminiscent of italian architecture of the time with a Bell Tower 180 feet tall. The apart ment is on the second floor of a 100-year-old building and features High ceilings and tall windows.
