Genocide is an acceptable behaviour in no profitable countries. A Lana Savic Heidelberg Germany a valueless society i think we arc creating a lot of fuss Over nothing with the Aldrich Ames conspiracy Case. ?o1 have betrayed a serious Trust said Ames in his court hearing. The fact is every Day people Are Slabbed in the Back and trusts Are betrayed by anyone who might need to get ahead this is a popular part of american culture in the , Praise wins Given to a Man once in a much higher position who also betrayed a serious Trust. Americans can quickly forget the idea that they have been violated especially if something agreeable can be gained from forgetting about things in the plea bargain capital of the world. A a in a democracy individual. Achievement is put above nationalism or Patriot ism and anyone who does not succeed in this rat race american society is considered a loser. American Lifeblood is the feeling of Power in a fist full of dollars the powerful deranged feeling of holding a gun in your hand or getting pumped at the gym and waxing your body a not this patriotism Ames is accused of violating. In a place where personal Power and Progress rest above All else the ameses Are a simple yet important link in the culture All americans share. Done to get in a fuss and Don t judge them. In the end they will get what is coming to them. A plea bargain or a Deal will be made. A Robert David Brown Naples Italy a a a Quot a a a a a / a a. C1ianni.ng i wonder if judge Stephen Breyer has a Well developed sense of Justice or irony after All it was a year ago that he was lying in a Boston Hospital bed the victim of an automobile Accident i seem to remember he had been Riding a Bike when he was struck by a car when he got a Call summoning him to Washington ., to meet with the president. Breyer a Federal appeals court judge was going to be president Clinton a first nominee for the supreme court seat left vacant by retiring associate Justice Byron White. There was however a problem Breyer had not paid social Security taxes for a household worker in his family a employ. At the time it seemed hardly fitting for the president to Overlook this failure when similar problems had Cost two women nominees their Chance to become attorney general. So there Breyer was in a Washington hotel room still expecting to get the Job and preparing his acceptance speech when the president announced that his Choice was Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Bummer. Breyer Wasny to even really ready to be out of the Hospital and then a no supreme court seat. But people say a fall Good things come to him who luckily or ironically the House of representatives last week voted to simplify the social Security tax Laws so it be an Issue anymore. And anyway Clinton seemed to have gotten Over it As a stumbling Block when he stumbled into the Short lived nomination of retired adm. Bobby Ray Inman to replace Secretary of defense Les Aspin. Inman among other things Hadnot paid the taxes for a Domestic worker until his nomination. But Back to this nomination. Associate Justice Harry Blackmun gave the president ample warning that he would be retiring. The president was going to nominate Senate majority Leader George Mitchell who already had announced that he was retiring in. The fall Mitchell had other plans it is said he wants to be the next commissioner of baseball. And anyway there was the presidents health care Reform package to push through right. Clinton a advisers started gathering names. Federal court judge Jose Cabranes in new Haven conn., was touted As a top Choice for the Short list. Not Only would this have Given the court its first latino but Cabranes also had the also jute backing of sen. Patrick Moynihan who insists that the judge is a really a new the president it is said was never too keen on the Choice. Of course there were other names. For example it was strongly suggested that the court needed a Black woman. But within the last few weeks it seemed that the president had pretty much made up his mind insiders said he wanted Bruce Babbitt the former governor who became Interior Secretary. The hitch Here was that the republicans had sworn to defeat his nomination. Not to worry the president had Aneth favorite his old Friend from Little Rock Richard Arnold a Federal appeals judge. Not a perfect Choice though there was the Arkansas connection that could have bothered people and judge Arnold has recently had cancer. Interestingly the republicans were so against Babbitt that they gushed glowingly Over Arnold by now this is All old hat since on the May afternoon of Friday the 13th the president stood alone in the Rose Garden and announced his Choice Breyer. The judge should easily be confirmed at least that is what Breyer says. I wonder what the future holds for Cabranes c Stamford advocate. Or thanks. You 7 to Albert. Lukats your Plant / Well i thought out to the coast and maybe Tare a flyer on a screenplay or to some stand or or work with St yen up Tellero on something. \ a a right. Sec you in men s underwear.
