In the current poll 59 percent said they knew a teenager who had attempted suicide and 15 percent said they knew a teen Ager who succeeded in taking his or her own life a virtually unchanged from 1991. The Survey found that teen agers who consider suicide overwhelmingly turn to friends for support. More than 85 percent said friends exerted a great Deal of influence Home and school were the second and third most frequently cited places to turn for help. Only 29 percent of the teen agers polled said their school was doing something to prevent teen suicide compared with 41 percent in 1991. Gallup suggested that  drop did not actually mean that schools were abandoning efforts to prevent suicide.
