Cohill newly elected president of the National association for coloured people a act european conference As stating he has a not seen any improvement in efforts to combat the. Effects of discrimination. Yet Cohill conveniently overlooks his own organizations recent acknowledgement of the . Army Europe a efforts in the area of equal Opportunity and the striking changes made in 1994 to the army a equal Opportunity program As a whole. On feb. 5, the a act presented awards to the Usa eur commander Gen. David a Maddox Pat Hansen Campbe chief of the Usa eur equal employment Opportunity office James a. Huffman former complaints manager of the Usa eur Leo office and maj. David Smith former chief of the Usa eur equal Opportunity office. The awards were presented by Cohill a predecessor Michael Lamberg. As Lamberg stated a the awards were to recognize the principal roles of the command and these specific individuals. Gen. Maddox is the first line civil rights activist in this command and the principal supporter of the Call for Equality and civil rights. We have experienced the qualitative and quantitative Justice working with unit command ers Down to first line supervisors to get the support we needed. When we need help each Agency involved comes Forward to counter to Cohill a remarks that he has not seen improvements in efforts to combat the effects of discrimination the army has introduced a number of significant changes to its equal Opportunity program in the last few months with the publication of interim change 4 to army regulation 600-20, a army command these changes include a requirement for career Long periodic and mandatory training in equal Opportunity and the prevention of sexual harassment in army schools supplemented by biannual equal Opportunity training in required subjects in troop units. The army a equal Opportunity complaint system was restructured to include expansion of the number of agencies with which to file complaints mandatory feedback to complainants required Krivesti gation of formal complaints strict time limits for the conduct of investigations introduction of a new equal Opportunity complaint form for improved documentation a victim oriented appeals process and a follow up assessment to determine the effectiveness of corrective actions taken and to deter and detect any incidents of reprisal. All soldiers and agencies were required to receive training in the new complaint Cess june 1. Unit reporting procedures were revamped to standardize reports on a Bari Nual basis and to add definition to the types areas and methods of Resolution for complaints. I will not contest Cohill a personal opinions but i would submit that he is clearly uninformed i Ricgard to the army equal Opportunity program and its recent initiatives. A Brig. Gen. R. Dennis Kerr director of human resources Washington .stop a crying Wolf after Reading the response concerning the dismissal of an officer for rape i just had to write. I am not taking sides with anyone nor am i condoning anyone. I just want to express that sexual harassment and rape Are very serious crimes that should not be used to any woman a advantage. After All there Are careers at stake. Women need to Start rising up and Stop a crying Wolf if the Wolf is not there. The reason i say this is that in a june 28 article an officer got dismissed because a woman was somewhere she was not supposed to be at the wrong time. Of the hundreds of cases of sexual harassment and rape 95 percent Are actual cases. That Means 5 percent Are from women who a cry if women keep a crying Wolf a the real thing May actually happen and people May not believe them. I speak from knowledge. Sexual harassment and rape. Are. Nothing to play around spec. Rhonda my inc Gie Belstadt German customer King at cafes i Feci an obligation to write in defense of the army and air Force Exchange service after All the negative publicity. I a offend de by the writer who states that All customer service at cafes is unfriendly inefficient and disrespectful of the Consumers needs. Cafes has been my employer for the past 10 months and i can state with certainty that the customer is definitely cafes first priority. I have spent my entire career in retail sales the last eight years As a member of management for a Large grocery Chain. Cafes spends lots of time and Money training employees in Courtesy and other customer service areas. 1 was impressed by the emphasis that is actually put upon instilling into the sales associates mind that the customer is King. I too believed that because cafes was the Only Choice service members and their families had that maybe the service was below Par. People who have a bad experience should treat it As just that and not generalize and state that All sales associates give poor service. I Pride myself on giving Friendly helpful service and treat each customer with respect and try to Cater to their individual needs. Having worked in a very service oriented area during my time with this company i can Tell you that cafes bends Over backwards to please the customer. So remember the next time you Are unhappy with the service you receive it is probably the person who is helping or not helping you who is to blame not cafes. A Carolyn Wright Schweinfurt German afraid of Competition yes i do shop at the army and air Force Exchange service but where else can you go with the Low Dollar i have been Reading the letters to the editor every Day and i just need to add my input. My dad retired in Schweinfurt and i have seen cafes take Over anything and everything. There used to be a German bakery on Post a bratwurst stand a pizza stand a ladies boutique a Well functioning music store a great a ass i store a Nice Bowling Alley not run by cafes schnitzel truck and much More. Well what happened cafes was so afraid of Competition the service either bought everyone up or chased them off Post. Did anyone know that private vendors in front of the Post Exchange pay up to 27 percent commission to cafes did anyone know the cafes is planning to put the Bookstore into the shop Pette at Schweinfurt in the video rental Corner did anyone know that cafes has been trying to get the Bank contract for merchants National Bank for years now every two years the contract is up for thing every wednesday i look through the stars and stripes for the thursday cafes sales. Well when i hit the store in the morning a guess what happens a sorry May am we never got the items in h a a sorry May am i did no to know we had a a sorry May am what you see is what we be a sorry a am the shipment is a Sandra Hummel Firth Germany Delta treats troops poorly i recently travelled to the United states with Delta air lines and noticed that the treatment of . Service members was very poor. When i arrived at the Airport with a confirmed ticket i was told i would be placed on standby because All seats were full most of the other people on standby were also american service members and the people i talked to also had confirmed seats. It appeared to me that Delta air lines placed service members on standby and filled seals with higher priced ticket holders. I was a Lucky Quot to get a seat but most servicemen Bers were not. I have heard of the same thing happening toothed service members. I wrote a letter to the office of military and government sales in Frankfurt and received a response that was far less than . American service members deserve treatment As least As Good As for any other traveler regardless of what we pay for our ticket. We do not need to be put at the end of the line for seats or any other service. I will not travel Delta if i can travel with any other airline and if the managers at Delta do not want to address the problem i would like to see no military travel on Delta.
