Staff writer you Don t have to be a world War ii Buff to appreciate what Bastogne offers in the Way of memorials a monuments and museums dedicated to the arpe rican soldiers who fought and died to liberate Belgium. It s nearly impossible for any tourist particularly an american not to be impressed by the structures found throughout this tourist town of 11,000. Probably the most impressive area is the american memorial at mar Dasson and Bastogne historical Center located on the City s Northeast end next to mar Dasson Hill. The memorial built in 1950, is a huge Stone made two level Monument built in the shape of  Star. It Marks the end of the Quot Freedom route where american soldiers came from Normandy France to Bastogne and liberated those under German occupation. Names of world War ii american units that fought in the Region from. Dec. 16,1944, to Jan. 25,1945, Are engraved into the Structure oth army div and 101st airborne div to name but a few. \ one tourist Sam Farhat of Foster City calif., was visiting Belgium with his family this summer.
