A Chance encounter with St. Ives a rare coastal Beauty nestled among the jagged Cliffs of Cornwall s North coast is More like hitting the Mother lode. The a3074 coastal Highway that runs from Havle up to St. Ives Bay frequently Narrows to a winding single Lane and hedgerow flanked Blacktop Road As it plays hide and seek with the rugged coastline giving no hint that one of England s most picturesque villages is concealed behind the foliage. Like most of Cornwall s charming coastal resorts St. Ives pops up like a Duck in an Arcade shooting gallery a when you least expect it. St. Ives with its sea sprayed promenade and narrow cobbled streets is the stuff of which postcards and travel posters Are made. Stair step layers of colourful shops and cottages embrace a Small Harbor which at Low tide resembles a giant toy Box strewn with brightly painted pleasure boats brought to life by giggling children who Scurry Between them in search of any aquatic treasures the outgoing tide May have left behind. The Best Way to approach St. Ives is from the South on a3074. Just inside the City limits turn a Sharp right at the bus station onto station Road and go Down the Hill to the Railroad station where there is a sizable parking lot. From there it s a Short walk Back up the Hilt past dozens of Well kept bed and breakfast Homes Many of which Overlook St. Ives Bay. So Ives is not a Large town and a brisk walk would cover most of it in an hour or two but every Street is an adventurous Side trip All its own. Each passageway is a High density collection of tiny shops and cozy restaurants catering to the widest Range of consumer tastes. Although vehicles Are not banned in the Central part of town they might As Well be. Casually dressed pedestrians picking and poking their Way through outdoor display Racks and shuffling Down the Middle of the Street in Masse pay scant attention to the handful of cars that try to thread their Way among them. When hunger pangs become too severe to ignore it s not necessary to wander the streets for hours in search of the exactly right pub or restaurant. Just head for the big.
