Bargain at any Price if you Haven t read the november newsletter from the Usa eur Hunting and fishing program manager you need to visit you local Rod and gun club immediately. The newsletter states that the bavarian forestry department is offering the Opportunity to Hunt class i red Deer Stags to the . Forces. If you Haven t hunted the red Deer Stag you need to take advantage of this rare Opportunity. According to the newsletter the Price for this adventure is Only 8,000-10,000 Marks pocket Money to most of us Hunters know that in Bavaria a requirement for the class i category a Stag must have a minimum Antler weight of 3.51 kilograms Alps and 4.01 else where. I m not sure but i would guess the average class i has an Antler weight of 4.5-5 kilograms. Now if you Are the cheap Charlie Type that is not inter ested in the offer stated in the newsletter and want to Hunt a Stag in the open Forest and not in a fenced in area i Carl provide you with an address in Hungary. A Hunt for a class 1,4-5 kilograms will Cost less than ,2,500 Marks. This includes five Days of Hunting with accommodations meals insurance License and guide fees. You will note in the newsletter that the daily guide fees for the bavarian Hunts Are a minimum of 180 and a maximum of 480 Marks. Room and Board Are also extra. Seriously i think this newsletter offer is a joke. I would have been happier to have read that a solution had been found to hold the interest of our Rod and gun club Volunteer instructors who Are be coming disinterested because of certain policies generated by the Susareu Hunting and fishing office. Some policies Are hard for volunteers to accept when they re written by an individual who is not authorized to carry a gun in the open Forest and possibly not allowed to make a cast with the Fly Rod for the elusive Rainbow. Hunting fishing and shooting instructors Are required to have certain qualifications. A manager of the Usa eur Hunting and fishing programs should be required to have at least those minimums required of our volunteers. I think that it s time to reevaluate our ams and policies especially if we want to retain our volunteers at the Dif Ferent Rod and gun clubs. Through our volunteers we Are Able to conduct Grams of interest for the soldiers offi cers and civilians working throughout Usa eur. Without these volunteers we can trash can our programs and close our club Jim Smyt Heidelberg Germany asking for Accident ". " -".". I have had an excellent driving record for 20 years and have been driving in Europe for the past year without incident. L have also been in the air Force More than 17 years so i am familiar with the rights of pedestrians in crosswalks especially in Europe. Recently i had a near miss at a Cross walk on a main drag at Ramstein. I briefly glanced at some of the surrounding Beauty looked Back and behold an individual was in my path in a crosswalk. Al though i never saw this person in the first place because of a parked vehicle i was at fault. Fortunately no Contact was made because my brakes worked. I of course use the crosswalks frequently and i like the pedestrian right of Way. However i am not completely Igno rant of the operation of this Type of Man made machine As some people obviously Are. If the Driver is Alert not stressed out not thinking about their Job or family no thinking about being hungry not thinking about some Bills they have j due or not thinking about thanksgiving or Christmas they might get their car stopped in time when that individual Steps out in the crosswalk. That is if the brakes function properly. I know pedestrians have the right of Way in crosswalks but i am not stupid enough to walk out in front of this Man made hunk of Metal weighing thousands of pounds unless i am sure it can Stop. Marty Paskcol Ramstein a Germany another perspective i am impressed by the political passion and patriotism evident in a recently published letter. The writer s comment if our forefathers wanted government to do everything for us and higher taxes we would still be a Colony of England Cle verly expresses the feelings of a Large Seg ment of americans. If our forefathers shared the Soldier View of bipartisanship though the Decla ration of Independence the Continental army and the american Constitution could not have been created. The Ameri can two party system is the Centrepiece of civilized government and political com Promise one of the things that makes it work. / James m. Commentary Clinton Cabinet needs More Bentsen by the Washington Post president Clinton undoubtedly meant it when he said tuesday that he is going to miss Lloyd Bentsen his Secre tary of the Treasury who is resigning. In its first two years this administration s major achievements have been in eco nomic and commercial policy. That s been the part of the administration that has worked most reliably and effectively. Since Bentsen is to be replaced by an ally at the White House Robert Rubin the Treasury s positions Are not Likely to change much. But Bentsen a former senator and chairman of the finance committee brought to his Job a kind of experience and judgment that the Clinton Cabinet heeded and still needs. Clinton s three most influential and dramatic victories were last year s budget Bill and the two Trade Bills. Passed by the narrowest of margins the budget Job Illus now pushing the Federal deficit sharply downward. Last year s Trade Bill establishing the North american j ree Trade agreement was passed Only after weeks of furious debate and the world wide Trade Bill went through after a struggle this fall that was Only comparatively less fierce than the earlier one. All three of these Bills Are now bringing Broad benefits to the Economy encouraging a recovery that had been a slow and limping affair in his press con Ference tuesday Clinton spoke glowingly of the 5 million jobs that the expansion has generated Over these two years. Bent sen had a Strong hand in those victories and is entitled to a substantial share of the credit for their results. _ Rubin is Well equipped for the primary Job of any Secretary of the Treasury to act As the president s ambassador to the restless and perennially suspicious Finan Cial markets in new York and abroad. He has spent most of his career in those markets and is respected there. But he cannot bring to the Treasury the same deep knowledge of Congress that Bent sen commanded. As Secretary Rubin s chief responsibility will be to fend off raids on the Treasury Over which he presides. The administration is beginning to move toward a tax Cut for the Middle class and the new re publican majority in Congress is in favor of that and More. With a presidential election ahead the Competition for applause can get out of hand quickly and it will be neither easy nor painless to ensure that any tax Cut is fully offset by real spending cuts and real increases in other revenues. Rubin is also aware that the dry and technical business of the Treasury the details of taxation financial regulation and macroeconomic policy work powerfully to influence american society. At the White House tuesday he touched briefly on the deeply ominous widening of the disparities Between Rich and poor in this country. The next Secretary of the Treasury May find that like the last one his sometimes is the decisive voice in an administration that has yet to develop a sure sense of direction.
