The committee set out to determine whether presi Dent Clinton s aides did anything improper when the gathered information about the ongoing so investigation that involved some of the first family s Arkansas business dealings. The 300-Page draft of the report dated dec. 5 and reviewed by the associated press did not draw any conclusions about the legality or propriety of the administration s conduct. In their final Days in the Senate majority the democrats who wrote the draft Are working on a Section that will make some recommendations about procedures for handling administration discussions about sensitive investigations in the future. Republican members of the committee who have denounced the actions of administration officials and the truth of their testimony Are preparing a draft of their own views. In View of their frequent Public criticism that re port is certain to draw harsher conclusions. The official report is expected to be released next tuesday the Day before the republicans take control of Congress. If the draft stands its Content would hot be unexpected Given that the democrats stung by Hanson Altai an their election losses Are reluctant to inflict further damage on Thor wounded president. Republicans on the other hand Are gearing up forthe exhaustive politically grueling investigation of Whitewater that they Benev i democrats denied them. Scattered throughout the draft Are anecdotes that escaped much notice during the panel s hearing such As comments the president apparently made to an aide that reflected his dissatisfaction with the Way his own White House had handle Whitewater.
