   European Stars and Stripes (Newspaper) - March 18, 2007, Darmstadt, Hesse                                20 stars and stripes Guam an advertising supplement sunday wednesday March 18 21 2007 tour the South with 36th services Story and photos by Tracie Barnthouse at gaan Point three flags Fly for those killed in Battle the american guamanian and japanese flags feel like going on a Road trip i know that can be difficult to do on an Island however the new South Side sightseeing tour guided by Andersen air Force bases 36th services outdoor recreation might be the closest thing to an actual Road trip youll get Here this tour is a great Opportunity for you to sit Back in services air conditioned Char Ter bus and watch historical Guam Sites go by the tour starts at outdoor recreation office where you receive a Quick safety Brief from there you hop on the bus and head Down South along Marine corps drive the tour guide Points out inter Esting monuments and historical artefacts however since this is the South Side tour we dont get off the bus until we Are truly in the South soon we find ourselves at the front Gate of naval base Guam instead of going into the base we take a left and head to the Village of Agat where we make our first Stop gaan Point gaan Point is at the Center of Agat Landing Beach in july 1944 Coconut Palms and other Jeffs pirates Cove is a great place to enjoy wonderful food and an excellent View vegetation covered the area after Wii the american troops secured the Island and then cleared this land it was a shelter for some 6000 Chamorro people formerly held in concentration Camps during the japanese reign today three National flags Are flown at gaan Point the american guamanian and japanese from gaan Point we head to our next Stop Cetti Bay Cetti Bay is a popular Overlook for locals and visitors the site was once Home to an ancient Chamorro settlement dating Back to 1000 and its a Long Bear Rock is located in Inarajan with a shape that resembles a furry mammal Spanish forts constructed in the 19th Century built in support of the Spanish Galleon Trade the fort sits on a Cliff just South of Umatac it provides excellent views of the Waters below travelling further South into the Village of Inarajan we reach Bear Rock a natural formation of the Rock and the resulting natural damage has shaped this overbearing Rock into what seems to be a big Bear patrolling the water its Best to see this Rock from the Side while having the Ocean and sky As a background then the for mation really stands out Pago Bay is the next Stop the Bay also located in the Inarajan area is a popular place for swimmers and kit boarding enthusiasts the Bay has a soft Sandy Bottom but also has Coral making it dangerous for those who venture out too far the final Stop on our whirl wind tour is to Jeffs pirates Cove for an excellent lunch this restaurant sits right by the Ocean and theres constantly a Breeze blowing through it if you like greek food i recommend the feta Delight Yum have fun exploring Southern Guam path to the top of the Lookout tour but if you Arent into climb ing the first Overlook provides a Good View of the coastline Cetti Bay is definitely Worth a Stop especially since youre already on the South part of the Island just opposite of Cetti Bay is a great View of it Lam Lam measured from the base of the Marianas Trench to the Peak of 1332 feet above sea level it Lam Lam is one of the tallest mountains in the world from Cetti Bay we Board the bus and then head to our next location it Soledad this fort was one of the last
