Pence entered his Field of dreams this it looked much different than he imagined while playing baseball at Arling ton High school and Starling id always drive by the Ball Park and id i wonder what it would feel like to walk in that stadium and say this is where i this is my my Pence i would always say one i wanted to do it gives me chills to think about its going to be pretty there one major difference Between pences youth Ful fantasy and the reality of the weekend series Between the Texas rangers and Houston As Pence envisioned himself playing Center Field for the Home not the the astros Are Happy that his dream didst come and for the its another of their drafting failures that they Are determined to put behind Pence has been such a Sensa Tion that a headline in the hous ton noting the drafting failures of the nil Houston Tex asked who needs Vince Young when youve got Hunter Pence the fans love astros Drayton Mclane he has a great personality and is ready to Roll All the you build franchises with players like i wish we had More like Hunter while pences unrelenting Energy and Cool quirkiness make him a fan none of it would matter without the performance on the the 210pounder was called up from triple a round Rock in late May and started slowly with seven hits in his first 32 a bats for a then he kicked into a major league in the last 35 games entering the he had hits in in 20 of those he had multiple including one four hit game and five three hit Hes hitting but is about 30 a bats Short of qualifying for the league of batters with at least 150 he ranks fourth in the major Hes a free which is a Good thing in some but it can be a Houston Gen eral manager Tim Purpura it was probably my biggest con Cern if i had but its the one area where Hes made the biggest Hes More disciplined at this stage in his career than i thought he could when he gets two strikes on Hes just looking to put the Ball in it seems like every you can put him Down for 23 pences production alone would make him a fan but its his approach and eccentricities that add the element of show business to and its All he hit a triple in one Houston Catcher Brad Ausmus and when he got to third he started jumping up and Down like he just drove in the win Ning run in game it was honest enthusiasm and it was Nice to he still plays the game like youre supposed to like youre 10 years old and trying to before a recent Purpura was speaking to a group of fans and Pence was on the Field warm ing he was out there doing stretches and running and Purpura but it was almost like he was having
