A the state announced wednesday that it has settled its dispute Over Back taxes with former heavy weight boxing champions Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. State tax commissioner Mario Procaccino said the agreement clears the Way for the Frazier Ali 12-round rematch scheduled for Jan. 28 in new York City s Madi son Square Garden. The two boxers agreed with the state tax commission that they Are subject to state personal in come tax on "100 per cent of their income derived from or connected with new York sources Procaccino said. The commission and attorneys for Frazier and Ali worked out terms for determining Back taxes due on Frazier s new York fights since 1967 and Ali s since 1970, the commissioner said. A Procaccino spokesman said state Law prohibits the disclosure of the amounts to be paid. The state had imposed a $348, 000 jeopardy tax assessment on each fighter s purse after Fra Zier won a unanimous 15-round decision in his first fight with Ali March 8, 1971. The assessment was issued pending final determination of Back taxes and inter est due Procaccino said. Once that Issue was resolved there was no problem about the fight going elsewhere he said.
